i just quit my job with nothing lined up after
probably a bad idea right
i really hate this job though and it's so mismanaged for an entire year i just have no expectations that this is going to turn out well for anyone the program's use to society is dubious and the pain it causes for the insurance agents whose paychecks continually get fucked up is incredible, especially since we seem to be the sacrificial lamb that takes heat for incompetent vendors who have charged people incorrectly, cancelled delivery of their merchandise without refund and assorted other problems. all of this comes out on the agent's folio, which is essentially a monthly paycheck. all because the insurance company wants their agents to pay for junk mail. i mean i'm so proud of myself. further, i was offered a position that was pitched to me as primarily brand compliance and claim reimbursement auditing and actually became a call center now they have ultimately officially decided that it is a call center but take no responsibility for the job offer that i accepted is this typical? should i watch out for this in the future? if it's a smaller company i think it's typical. my company is notorious for hiring people for certain positions and then sticking them into something terrible. but then again its not really a typical company.. rather a garage start up that happened to get semi successful
unfortunately the market is so shit alot of employers think they can just get away with yanking your crank, and lots of times they're right. better luck with your next job |

dang dude - kudos for standing up for what you believe in. I had been disillusioned with graphic design for several years because it has essentially turned into an advertising/marketing job. most companies that hire can't understand that i'm not a salesperson and it's not the same thing.
nowadays they expect me to build websites for them and they don't understand that i'm not an IT guy. i can design a website but i can't build and run one for you (technically i could - they just can't understand how these are two entirely seperate things). |

Did something in particular happen to make you quit? If it's as bad you say, it's best that you left. Reclaim your soul or something. What kind of job would make you happy?

I was out Wednesday through Friday, essentially a 5 day holiday. I didn't do much of anything, as I was far too sad to get out of bed before 4 or be out in public. this is one of the deepest depressed states that i've experienced since college. Last night I could not sleep because all i could think about is the fresh hell of work the next day.
when i got in i was very disgruntled and my manager, who sits behind me and started two weeks ago, responded to this by having a skype conversation in which she reiterated that this is a call center and i will be required to take calls. at one point she got smart assy with me and said "would you like it better if we catered to you and let you stay off the phone and did whatever you liked while i forward the complaints to HR?" at that point i declared i was resigning. the fact that these "team mates" complain that i don't take calls specifically so that i can depress call volume (which is normally about things that we cannot do because we are all taking calls every 45 seconds) previously, i was working with an interim manager whose strategy was basically exactly that, and i excelled and thought i was moving into some kind of upper management position. once they hired this dingbat, who also today lost her shit on an escalation and then started crying about it, basically headhunted me, second guessed everything i was doing and then made it her mission to make sure i was taking 20-30 calls because that was "fair to everyone else" even though everyone else hasn't even begun to be trained on the brand compliance and quality control roles that i had taken over when the manager who hired me walked out the door because the account was astoundingly mismanaged and unprepared for Quote:

Fundamentally a bad call, Trotsky. It's never a good idea to terminate your only source of income without something else lined up.
I hate my job and everything the job/company stands for, but I suck it up cause I know I need money in order to operate in this society. I do admire you for putting your foot down, but are you really going to be much happier if your sitting around unemployed without any money? Jobs aren't easy to get in the US of A right now. You'll probably be wishing you never quit within a couple of weeks. Best of luck to ya in finding something else though man. |

i think i outlined why this is the case here i think especially since i thrived under the interim manager as did the account just to see it backslide into a total catastrophe since the new manager arrived and started pointing and commanding instead of leading. she's kind of like a really annoying messageboard newbie, you know the ones that clomp in all over the board acting like it didn't exist before they got there by the way dudes did i already mention that she started yelling at someone that was escalated to her after which she started crying about it? yes that is definitely a competent call center supervisor |

I might be recalling the wrong person, but are you in the Austin area?
If so, I sent you a PM on a possible job lead. |

I'm a fellow with no college or University experience so I've pretty much painted myself in a corner, working dead-end, shit jobs. It sucks, and I'm only getting older. I've been working on gambling on sports in a somewhat "proffesional" manner. It's actually been going alright... thus far anyways. |

we started with three phone operators, one quit early on and for two months me and this other person who was promoted over me, fielded 750-900 calls per week on our own. it was an astounding debacle since the two of us could only physically do about 120 a day put together. It started to get better under the interim manager and now is backsliding to fielding calls about why they sent an email a week ago and nobody ever responded.
meanwhile this incompetent is creating new work for us to do while she sits around and plays on her phone |

I only hope that you can get someone from this company to provide you with a proper reference though Trots. If you have that lined up you should be alright. You could always just take another shit job and do that until you find something better. |
