The thing that bugs me about 3rd Eye Blind is that the singer sings in a punk style, the guitar rhythms are all very punk driven but everything is played in a slow alt-rock tempo. So it just doesn't really mesh in my opinion.

Dude sings in that Pennywise, fake accent kind of style that is very rampant in punk-music. Most of the songs revolve around simple power-chord structures with very simplistic lead guitar thrown in over top. It's punk to a tee, but played in a slow alt-rock style and thus loses any punk energy. So as a band, they don't really make much sense to me.
