Pride in frugality isn't quite boasting, imo.

why not? a dictionary will tell you that to boast is 'to speak with pride.' so if you are proud of something, and feel it necessary to tell the world all about it it is boasting.
you might have a different feeling toward someone boasting about a sweet deal they got vs. the someone boasting that they never spend less than $200 for a meal, but they are boasting just the same. |

You're not really coming from the higher position though... To me you can boast about your BMW to a guy in a Kia, but the guy in the Kia isn't really boasting when he talks about getting better mileage.

In showing how cheap your food is and seeming to be happy with it nonetheless, the boast is really that Trots doesn't need a lot of money to have a good time, which kind of implies that he's a better sort of person, because needing a lot of money to have a good time, is widely regarded as a negative trait - because it's entitled, wasteful, narcissistic, etc. and the attitude of a shallow, materialistic person.

If talking about eating at a nice restaurant is boasting, then so is that. This isn't complicated, guys. I don't think either is boasting, tbh. trots is the one who brought it up jesus. |
