For what it's worth, review copies have been sent out, so it should leak soon.

Like you say, I'm amazed Monte hasn't been talking about the release more. I doubt it is due to a lack of restraint on his part, probably he hasn't received it yet.

Thumbnails as the artwork teaser have shown up on the official site - and they're making me even more nervous about how this thing is going to look than the other image that's out there. These thumbnails could be VERY easily mistaken be stuff from the Oceania booklet or from the Celestials 7" box.

Exhibit A: TAFH Thumbnails

Exhibit B: Oceania Stuff

I mean, c'mon - just totally lazy and lame. At least TRY to stick within the framework of the design for the original albums. While I didn't love any of the prior ones (Pisces was the closest to being 'cool') at least they weren't this far off the mark.

And not sure that this has always been in such gloriously atrocious high detail, but man - this design just plain sucks. Hope that there are at least some subtleties in the print job that make it tolerable, because this appears like unto shit.

That is terrible. Maybe it makes more sense in person... Looks like they had ink left over from the zeitgeist printings.

Why didn't they just go with the original individual covers? Too expensive?

What better tribute to the nineties than releasing the records with special edition Magic Eye covers! I wonder what I am supposed to see, or if there might also be special collectors Pogs inside the box?

Wait...you were in middle school back around 92'-94'? I thought you were around my age...(I was still in elementary back then.) Boys thought they were totally badass when they brought "triple-slammers" to the playground. Even back then this struck me as slightly asinine, though, because when I collected my bag of Pogs from the giant metal tub at the back of the craft store I simply picked out the really thick plastic slammers as opposed to the ones of regular thickness...and they were neither more difficult to find nor more than a quarter or so more expensive than the regular ones. So...for a quarter more investment I was instantly cool?

The EPs look like Folio Book covers which I don't mind. What I'm guessing is the DVD sleeve at the back sticks out like a sore thumb though. It's like someone forgot what a cohesive package is.

i would like to have TAFH on vinyl but i might not buy it if it's really ugly. why can't they just stick with the original artwork? also i'm not intending to buy it for the price that they want to sell it. ridiculous.

i have the same problem with the SD reissue. i still want to buy a nice copy, but i'd much prefer to pick up the original.

Whole thing reminds me of this article: http://recordcollectornews.com/2013/...-of-new-vinyl/

Excellent question. Guessing it's a rights usage thing? Or maybe they wanted them all to 'match'?

Here's to hoping there's some rhyme and reason to those folio books that Kahlo has mentioned...

The things that bugs me is Gish and SD came out at the same time and they clearly were the artwork conceptually. I don't really like that artwork but at the time I thought it was a neat idea to connect all the resissues with redesigned artwork that all fit together, then they just abandoned that and now every release is different. I don't like that the first two look the same just because they were released together.

This all just makes this box make less sense. Should have all just been one massive MCIS definitive reissue.

Skimmed the article but for serious collectors reissues aren't worth it.

the art sucks ass. i think TAFH deserved a reissue, especially since the original release was limited. they should have imo cut the MCIS singles out and just put together a remastered 2CD set (minus Pastichio and the covers) plus a bonus disk. in no way should it be so expensive as the only people who'll buy it are completest SP fans who are once more shafted by excessive pricing, this time for a b-sides collection!

TAFH vinyl is a first pressing, though.

However I'm not gonna spend €150 for LPs with this new "artwork" and packaging before I'm sure that they didn't fuck up the pressing again.

Word.

Vinyl quality has been absolute shit since Oceania and forward.
