A few have already completed their mixes and I have forwarded the links to their respective recipients. There's a lot of time left so if you are like me and tend to spend way too long nitpicking everything, don't worry too much about rushing things.

ok my review:

this mix just owned because it included Flight of the Conchords, it doesn't matter what else was in the mix! (but to be fair, I also enjoyed many of the other songs, it was a good mix of genres/styles - was not familiar with most of the music, but will listen to the mix again =))

Comprehensive review:

1 cool little intro song

2 this was pretty cool. i recognise it to.

3 pixies? frank black? it's mildly recognisable, i think it's from teenager of the year which i used to have and lost after giving it a couple of spins. probably gonna give this a download now.

4 good change of pace. liked it.

5 i really liked this one, just when i thought it was going for some crappy derivative styling it did a 180 and made it all make sense.

6 burden in my hand, kinda good to hear a song i can recognise in a mix.

7 Jackie Blue, should be a 2 in a row, but i've never actually heard this before. decent, cool solos, good to hear for completist reasons.

8 i love perth, probably could make some smart arse comment. but perth's alright. as long as you don't care to much about "culture".

9 alright. reminded me of something i can't put my finger on.

10 alright.

11 elliot smith. not sure which song. someone i've been meaning to check out more thoroughly.

12 Mirah- Jerusalem tagged still. this was ok.

13 pavement or stephen malkmus. i liked this a lot. probably gonna compel me to finally check out brighten the corners/terror twilight and onward. eheheh eheheh eheh eh eh

14 this was good

15 alright

I enjoyed this. Nothing glaringly bad after one listen. i'll probably give it a few more spins and then i'll definitely be checking out some of the bands from it.

I knew it!

Didn't notice that the first and last songs were different versions of the same song, good little trick; i'm gonna check that out now.

Yeah i noticed that when i was typing it, and i did my best to fix it with no idea what i actually did wrong.

What is odd about your choice of musicians is... I actually play a guitar that was owned by the (a?) guitar player from TV on The Radio (a Gretsch Duo Jet) that I bought used 5 years back... and I have absolutely no idea who the band is and have never heard anything from them... until that mix. haha... I wonder if my guitar was used on that song!

Honestly, most of those musicians I have never heard anything from although a few of the names are familiar.. so in reality - to me, they are obscure!

1. Sweet intro. Sounds like some Aphex Twin-type shit.
2. Ping Pong beats is a pretty good conceit. Really dig the vibe.
3. Good song. Not much else to say.
4. Most conventional song so far…I liked the previous stuff better.
5. Another good one. Songs about watching TV usually do it for me. Organ is almost always awesome.
6. The first half didn’t do much for me, but the horns and the guitar solo halfway through were cool and I like where it went after that.
7. Oooh, this one is really cool. The synth interjections after every line are ace. Good beats too.
8. I didn’t even realize he wasn’t singing in English at first because it’s such a solid pop song. Cool guitars. I feel like I’ve heard something by this artist before but I can’t put my finger on it.
9. This is some trippy shit. Sounds like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, but with more acid. I love it.
10. My favorite so far. It’s probably going to give me nightmares, but they will be bad-ass nightmares.
11. Pretty sure this is the Notwist. I’ve never heard a full album by them but this makes me want to. The synths/strings on the chorus are very pleasing.
12. Soundtrack of Our Lives. I’m familiar with them and not crazy about them, but this is a pretty good song. Lots of energy.
13. Interlude. Dece.
14. Not much to say about this one. Not bad.
15. Like this one better than the previous non-English song. Lots of German dudes on this mix I think.
16. I don’t know what happened to Track 16. I can’t get it to play in any program even though it looks like an audio file. Probably my fault.
17. Very good, love the strings.
18. Holy shit, mariachi with electronics programming? Mind is blown.
19. This is pretty odd. Not that previous stuff wasn’t, but this doesn’t do a lot for me.
20. I really love the panning on the drums in the chorus-like parts. I like a lot more about it but that’s the only one I can describe.
21. These are the first chicks on here I think. Don’t care much for this.
22. Awwww yeah…Two Gallants – Despite What You’ve Been Told. Only song that I’m intimately familiar with. Makes a great closing track.

Overall, I good have done with a few less instrumentals, even though I enjoyed all of the ones on here. Definitely going to check out more from whoever did #s 9, 10, and the Notwist.

7.7/10

the mix made for me:

TRACK 01 (dot m4a) - one of my favorite of all the tracks. more so because of the instrumentation and less because on behalf of the vocals. although that is the strange part. half the time i didn't care for them at all and the other i really enjoyed them. probably a real grower track.
TRACK 02 (dot mp3) - not such a fan of the guy in the background yakking, but her voice is as solid as the nuance-instruments heard throughout in the background.
TRACK 03 (dot mp3) - so far all of the tracks have had really cool intros. and once again there is a guy who won't shut up in the background. i guess that type of thing really annoys me. lyrically i like this song because she sings about the one cliche i won't let die "moth to a flame" which was all i was thinking about during this song. and so far all female vocals which is definitely a plus.
TRACK 04 (dot mp3) - a change of pace with some pop style vocals swirling around with the instruments. i dunno what to think of this song, but i like listening (not sure if i like the song though). i like the cheesy lyrics though.
TRACK 05 (dot wav) - i half expected rezeznik from the goo goo dolls to start singing on this track when i first heard it. definitely liked the song more towards the end than i did at first. really this one needs to be listened to a few more times before i'll appreciate it for what i think it could be worth.
TRACK 06 (dot mp3) - although i admit this song goes pretty well in the mix, i fancy it being transmuted into its rock form because it would be a swell skipping stone.
TRACK 07 (dot mp3) - finally some background vocals sans a male voice, but damn they are cheesy.
TRACK 08 (dot mp3) - no need to say that i don't like the dude in the background at this point. a much better track without that bastard. not so much a track to grade with a scorecard, but it holds its own otherwise.
TRACK 09 (dot mp3) - back to much better ground here. really pulls the ailing mix out of its slump and triumphs over all previous tracks. you can count on it that i'll be rescuing this little gem and storing it away in safe keeping. pretty curious to see who this is. fairy tale lyrics and playful end-song vocals cheer up the hell out of this already clam-happy tune.
TRACK 10 (dot m4a) - billy and d'arcy sound funny here...
TRACK 11 (dot mp3) - back to the nice intros. this mix maker has a nose for beautiful intros. another fine track and (the third) one i actually know. and some background vocals that aren't sloppy male pieces of shit or cheesed out female lines.
TRACK 12 (dot mp3) - this song reminds me of going to the barber shoppe as a young child while it was raining. a really bad feeling. something is not right here. gives me the willies
TRACK 13 (dot mp3) - another cover (just kidding..) which i really like. i have a feeling a lot of sabbath fans would thumbs down this track for treading onto their territory, but i'm not absolutely crazy about BS so i give this song two welcome arms. by the way i was watching jeopardy today (some of the rerun episodes on GSN of the ironman Ken Jennings) and one of his opponents was an "orchid specialist" - that is, unless i misunderstood the guy. that guy was certainly no ironman.
TRACK 14 (dot mp3) - no bad talk here. i'm getting tired and this song is certainly helping out. not too mellow, but her voice is comforting.
TRACK 15 (dot m4a) - takes a lot to have a good song without music helping you out, but this track does it well. as much as i like this i'm more curious of the story behind how it got on your head and then into your computer and finally onto this mix. please tell its story. time to wear that starry crown!
TRACK 16 (dot mp3) - the shaky recording is making my head wobble. better not do this one on the headphones next time. really a harsh track and definitely one of the better ones here although it took it a moment to get its balance.
TRACK 17 (dot m4a) - has its moments, but i really wish the vocals were buried in the whole song like that are at a couple spots. little too in my face. 99.9 degrees hmm.... whatever. i was sad to see the end of the mix after this one was over.

Summary:

After rereading what i wrote about each song one might think i wasn't such a fan of this mix, but that's without what would be considered a doubt untrue - i would only remove about three songs from this mix to make it really solid. however even those songs were really fun to talk about. in terms of flow (including all songs) this mix was well thought out, or at the very least this person was naturally talented at slapping down the order for a harmonious mixture of things. mostly though i can't wait to see who Miss TRACK 09 is. i'm not gonna cheat. so i'll have to wait and see. just like a song from the the last mix made for me i'll keep this trinket on the Flashdrives of My Mind.

Mix experience: 9/10.

thank you, mix maker.
