Billy Corgan's British Equivalent...
...is Damon Albarn. Seriously, Billy has at least ten things in common with Blur's lead singer.
1. Basic reputations - Insanely hardworking, control freaky and arrogant. 2. Lead singers and sole songwriters of their respective bands. 3. Employed wayward bassists who like the charlie (i.e. Alex James & D'arcy) 4. Employed sensitive talented guitar players (Graham and James) 5. Widely disliked by people who don't LOVE their bands. 6. Never the most famous exponent of their scenes (i.e. Damon wasn't Liam and Billy wasn't Kurt) but easily as influnetial. 7. Both men turned to soundtracks after their fifth studio albums. 8. Both suffered severed hair loss in late 20s. 9. Both relish and embrace diversity - witness the extremes of punk and orchestrated pop on Parklife, the playful ballards and Sabbathesque riffing on MCIS. 10. Both men say Oasis are a joke but are secretly admirers - Damon always wanted to write a song like Wonderwall which the whole world can hum whereas Billy was seen standing open mouthed with awe sidestage at Oasis' 1999 comeback show in Chicago. 11. Like Gorrillaz, Billy's second incarnation Zwan will dwarf his original success...whoah, maybe I'm getting carried away now. Can anyone tell me if Billy and Damon have ever met of publicly spoke of each other. |

I'm sure every person on earth has 10 things in common with Bolly.
What's this "standing open-mouthed with awe" thing? What's your source? Sounds like lame second-hand info to me. Maybe he was yawning. |

I think this topic is pretty interesting... Its a light, fun little post and i think he had some well thought out comments. anyway, like the doctor said- you forgot about the cartoon thing.. Also, i could see Billy liking Oasis.. The first two albums were really good.. James had Morning Glory ranked as one of his favorites the year it came out. ------------------ we only exist in virtual reality |

yeah but there's one thing you're forgetting here....SP have had tons of hits and Blur only has that "woohoo" song well-known....

And ughhh, Oasis' first show back or whatever in 1999 wasn't in Chicago. It was in Philadelphia, on December 3rd for the Y100 Feastival. I was there....that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I kindof agree.
Although a lot less melancholy, I have always felt there were similarities between blur songs and sp songs. Oh, and Blur are great (though their early stuff is rather shakey... but then so is The Marked). ------------------ Sigs are gay. |
