He's making fun of critics there right?
Printheads = music critics

"I go to pieces" = "I laugh at t****

"With print you substitute an ear
For an extra useless eye"

= "Written reviews are stupid"

"Dice Man" kicks an incredible amount of ass.

That just complete lack of production, and the minimalism

not necessarily "making fun" but yea it is a song about critics of the time

So how is it, yeah

I thought this game
Would do me good

How could printed vinyl bring you out to here?
We laughed with them

I'm no egghead
But I'm an ex-worker man
W.C.-hero friend - and not water closet!

There's a barrier between writer and singer
Uh-huh he's a good man
Although a lazy one
The singer is a neurotic drinker
The band little more than a big crashing beat.
Instruments collide and we all get drunk

The last two lines
Were a quote, yeah
When we read them
We went to pieces
note the reference to legendary drunkard WC Fields

I've been getting into modern Fall. I'm surprised at how good it still is.

Mark E. Smith talking about being influenced by Rap but not liking that it can't be pulled of live, how Rock became stale and boring, and having a complex rhythm section
Really interesting

when i think of modern fall i think of pretty much anything from country on the click onward, but damn yer on the ultra-modern with that one

speakin of modern sounds, it's incredible how much stronger the peel sessions sound to me than a lot of the album versions. performances are for the most part immaculate (in fall standards, whatever that means) and the sound quality, those full-bodied drums, hot damn!

Sam Riley played Mark E Smith in that movie apparently (I haven't seen it) and then went on to play Ian Curtis in Control (WHICH IS A FUCKING AWESOME MOVIE)

Where do I sign up for a job pretending to be post-punk legends I do that already

It's an intriguing take on the styles of both biopics and documentaries. It regularly breaks the fourth wall, bends the truth and portrays legends as though they happened but leaving it up to the viewer to decide what is fact and fiction. I think you'd love it.

24 hour party people is great. I love it. Less factual than control (lots of liberties taken but as it's clear from early on, this is tony wilson as he claims to remember it), but a lot more entertaining (well you know..Control isnt supposed to be fun to be fair...).

One of my favorite quote: "It's a pity you didn't sign the Smiths, but you were right about Mick Hucknall. His music's rubbish, and he's a ginger."

Also

Tony Wilson: You know, I think Shaun Ryder is on a par with W.B. Yeats as a poet.
Yvette: Really?
Tony Wilson: Absolutely.
Yvette: Well, that is amazing, because everybody else thinks he's a fucking idiot.

Yvette is right of course.

and

Rob Gretton: You know your trouble, Tony? You don't know what you are. You see, I fucking know what you are, but you don't know what you are.
Tony Wilson: My curiosity's got the better of me, Rob, tell me, what am I?
Rob Gretton: You're a cunt.
Tony Wilson: Well, that was something I *did* know, you see, I actually did know that.

Yeah, that movie was pretty awesome.

And yeah that was Marky in that movie

Although Idk why he really even needed to be in it. He's voiced his dislike for the Manchester scene and his desire to keep himself seperate from it in multiple interviews
