Starts nice enough but wow, that singer has an annoying voice.

I find it hard to listen to “Perfect” right now for some reason. All those layers and layers of carefully constructed sound just sound like an endless abyss of highly intellectualized self-absorption to me.

You are not wrong that there is a bit of an uncanny valley vibe to 'Perfect'. It's a lovely song, but I don't think they ever nailed it. Just a bad studio recording of a good song.

I think that is part of its charm now, makes it seem even more yearning.

For me it’s the drums

Theyre too loud and swishy and harsh as f sounding, detracts from the otherwise lush feel of this tune

This is the ultimate version of Perfect - live electric from that tour was great with James' ebow in full force. Cued up for your ease and convenience as well:

Also, great BC camera shove about 30 seconds in right as he starts singing... and Kenny's shades? FORGET IT

ah... a refreshing opinion! but yeah, it's one of those tracks that you can tell is from the mid-to-late 90s but not in a way that deters from the song. just makes me feel like i'm orderin pizza at the bowling alley or what have you
