house of cards:west wing::goodfellas:the godfather
newer, snappier versions wouldn't exist without the shoulders of the original to stand on (haven't watched very much of house of cards yet, just a few episodes, but i see what you mean re: cynical vs west wing - makes me want to watch some west wing!) though, i didn't have the attention span / patience for the godfather whereas west wing i could watch all day |

second season wasn't as good... it felt almost like an entirely different show. sometimes it felt like poli drama schlock you'd see on network TV. but I'm guessing it's mainly buildup for what'll probably be the last few seasons. the stakes were raised too high in the first season and if it continued with that craziness it'd probably have ended up like Homeland or Dexter. so yknow its whatever... still i cared enough to marathon through it, so that's saying something
and frank is probably the first fictional character on a tv drama that made me feel disgusted. unlike with walter white he had a logical trajectory to get to where he did. but underwood is a true antihero and i really want to see him go down for what he did despite being the main protagonist. i really feel no pity for whatever comes his way Quote:
