Default Coldplay hate?

Why does everyone hate Coldplay? I thought X&Y was a decent album. They always get shit, never figured out why.

eh, i disagree. granted not all their material is amazing, some of the songs on x&y are actually good songs. Im sure alot of music you listen to people would say the same about. Or anyone for that matter.

muse are loads more exciting than coldplay

coldplay is just very ordinary. i really enjoyed parachutes, and i remember when i heard politik when i first listened to rush of blood i was thinking "holy shit this could be awesome." but it was just another boring rehash. x&y tries to experiment a bit, but again, its just decent. (there are a few solid standouts like low, which is a good track and maybe hold somes promise)

I like their first album and EP but not much after that. I did not even bother to listen to X & Y.

I hear ya. I liked Parachutes alot, but Rush of Blood did nothing for me. X&Y on the other hand isnt bad at all. They use a kraftwerk riff for the song "Talk" which is pretty cool.

will i be the first to drop in the 40 year old virgin reference?

"You know how I know your gay? You like Coldplay."

But seriously, i'm still blown away by Parachutes, and Rush of Blood is good when you just want to chill. I didnt like x+y. the ideas were good, but for the most part the songs were the suck/rehashes of older ones (see: speed of clocks). But talk is damn good

A Rush Of Blood To The Head is a beautiful album. X and Y and Parachutes are decent.

Parachutes is a darn good album. "Don't Panic", "Shiver", and "Trouble" are great songs. After that, they should have quit. Why?

-Chris Martin pens the most unimaginative lyrics EVER. Read: they suck
-They are starting to sound like a U2 ripoff, which is never a good thing
-They simply were never a good band

Parachutes is a classic 5 star album.

Rush of blood... hit and miss

x and y pretty good.

They are a great live band and chris is a good singer. The band needs to reach out with their sound a bit more but I believe they continue to write good songs for a while.

I've seen them live 3 times and they were excellent everytime although the were at their best when I saw them right before Yellow hit MTV. They really had some magic.

They were probably the first 'pussy' rock band I ever liked.

i really enjoy parachutes, a lot. but a rush... is decent and i can't stand x & y especially since chris martin has gone mad, and because he is a twat. so we will soon figure out if they actually are imitations of radiohead; coldplay are now working with producer Brian Eno which translates into a coldplay kid a album. nah i really don't know, but if they don't take a new direction on this next album i'm completely done with them.

I've never heard a Coldplay song that reminded me of Radiohead, honestly. Well, Karma Police maybe, but that song beats the living shit out of anything Coldplay have ever done.

i really dont get that, coldplay are mostly just soft rock boredom.

people would compare travis to radiohead too. its just an insult to radiohead. the muse comparisons are tired too, but at least thats understandable because of how similar matt and thom sound.

Yeah, I think a lot of people dislike Coldplay because their sound is sort of a derivative of half U2, half Radiohead. If you actually listen to the music (not just the radio singles casually) some of the similarities disappear. I agree that their sound is not amazingly original, but I do find that Chris Martin is a very emotional songwriter. The band has written a lot of truly emotional songs, and I also appreciate their gift in creating sonic landscapes (though they are simpler than Radiohead's or the like). Listening to parts of X and Y makes me feel like I am flying thru the night, miles above the earth.
