this guy that I know on Soulseek
He is the ultimate hipster. It's hilarious. All he listens to / recommends me is obscure shoegaze / dreampop and psychedelic bands. And his favorite bands are ones where the vocals are pushed way back in the mix. When I try to get him to listen to some popular bands he'll just say "A bit too mainstream for me."
Also he's a stay at home dad while his wife works so he has all this time on his hands to be a music nerd. |

So he recommends you lots of music from a genre he knows you like and for his trouble you make fun of him for being a hipster behind his back

But I've never encountered hipsterdom at this level. I just had to tell someone. I think the only reason he doesn't like the Dandy Warhols is because they are so popular. I'm not making this shit up.

He's recommended me No Joy, Sulk, Drowner, Gliss, Tripwires, True Widow, Lorelle Meets the Obsolete, and Porcelain Raft. Those are his more recent recommendations.

the op is actually the rare case of a very logical situation to use pejorative "hipster" so i don't know why you're all complaining

the pejorative has been applied to so many things that at this point it has no meaning
essentially i've decided that the hipster pejorative is the result of the gen x and millennial generations hating themselves for being post industrial consumer slugs |

the only people who use the term 'hipster' as an insult, are those who are supremely jealous
