Actually, in most cases where you can say that's a very "X" decade guitar tone you know you're dealing with something def dated and probably uninspired

I mean not necessarily I'm just not trying to single out the 70's as much as I'm saying the guitar playing on Reed live albums is incredibly cliche as opposed to the same song under VU where it's not a 60's tone it's a VU tone

There's soo much just straight self indulgent wankery the type of stuff young Reed would shit on

It's almost like the guy lost a bet and had to let him play on the next album

It's not like he was incapable of collaborating with a more inspired guitarist, Blue Mask is solid in that respect

And I much prefer the big band backed tracks on Transformer and such to phoned in guitar playing
