I'm gay and I think he's alright. I've only seen Tosh.0 which is amusing in kind of a dumb way, but I haven't seen any of his stand-up. Gay jokes in general don't bother me much at all though, unless I can tell the comedian is being somewhat serious but in a "funny" way. I dated a guy for a bit that loved him, if you're interested in more homo perspectives.

Being mugged isn't even in the same ballpark as being raped, though. Rape/sexual abuse in general is not only more common than mugging, but it's also significantly more traumatizing and it's more likely for the victims to have PTSD-like symptoms after the fact. It's a pretty worthless comparison.

I read something today at work that put a different perspective on it.

He didn't make a rape joke to the lady. He strongly suggested it would be funny if "she got raped by five guys right now. Right now."

That last emphasis, they were saying, almost makes it seem like he was encouraging it. It was a disturbing way to phrase it; it was almost like it was imperative. I know we live in the internet age where "everything is fair game", yada yada, I get it. I've been on the internet for like 16 years, blah blah.

But, considering his popularity amongst groups of males aged 16 to, I dunno, 30... to make light of victimization that is very real and to "de-stigmatize" rape over the course of his comedic career is, I don't know, pretty irresponsible. We've seen what casual racism and sexism has done over time, it makes it okay to be "ironically" racist to the point where people have no problem being overtly racist as long as they add an LOL at the end.

I've read an absurd amount about this since it happened, as everyone has instant opinions on the internet. It seems everyone who is saying "O WELL THAT'S TOSH, QUIT GETTING BUTTHURT" are, no surprise, males aged 16 to 30.
