Pollen is sperm/male gametes.
Conifers are a) not flowering plants b) do not use animals to pollinate and therefore rely on the wind, therefore they make a lot of fine pollen. Grasses are flowering plants but also rely on the wind. Anything with showy flowers is not the cause of your allergies. Many trees, such as maples (early in the season) and oaks, etc. do not make showy flowers and also contribute to allergies. This is relevant info for most of the USA but not entirely. But generally it's the fault of the conifers and grasses. |

In flowering plants, the stamen consists of the filament and anthers, the latter of which holds the pollen. The pollen needs to make its way to the pistil in order to trigger SEXUAL REPRODUCTION and FRUITING.
