i just feel like when someone says "people don't like x" its like, well sure some people don't. but lots of other people do.
some marvel exec said 'readers don't want diversity' & its like, maybe not your stupid audience full of manbabies that are concerned with the continuity of a superhero who is 60 years old |

thing is they make thor a black woman and nobody buys the comic but nobody bought the comic when he was a white man, it seems like comics is one of those industries that keeps going because the franchises are hot even if the original medium is fucking dunzo
but i just think its sad when some white guy feels the need to point out that teen arab ms marvel didn't change the industry and its like nobody gives a fuck about ms marvel in the first place my dude |

Watched Cronenburgs "History of Violence". I liked it.
Never heard of the comic. Is it better? |

/pol/ was meant to be the containment board. Now 4chan itself is just /pol/.
The only part of 4chan that wasn't /pol/ (that I visited, because I haven't visited most of them) was /lit/. It was the only part of the board where you could hope to get an intelligent conversation maybe 50% of the time. Much of it was just people being hipsters and being "ha you have shit taste I'm more well read than you are and have read more obscure things" |

Ghost in the Shell - B+
Gorgeous. Blade-runner like (though not as transcendent). The whining about cultural appropriation is BS. Could have been more but I was pretty impressed considering the shitty reviews. |

are you just pulling the wool over your eyes about this stuff because it might interfere with your ability to give Bs to forgettable hollywood remakes?

not that these Japanese people on the street represent a perfect statistical cross section, but most of the people getting upset about Scar Jo's casting are western whites. She does an awesome job. Hollywood obviously has a huge problem casting Asians, but a cyborg cartoon character ain't the most important place to make headway. (and obviously she's not playing a japanese character in the film. She's playing a robot that looks/sounds American. The white-washing was in the scripting/production phase. There are other Japanese characters in the film, including the great Beat Takeshi, who speak Japanese.) Last edited by TuralyonW3 : 04-02-2017 at 01:26 AM. |

also FWIW, the live action version makes a big improvement over the unrelenting tits-and-ass fanservice of the original animated film.

I watched The Discovery tonight. It's not like the OA. It takes itself too seriously and isn't phantasmagorical and moving like the OA (I only bring it up because they've been compared to each other). The ending is lame. Where have I read about the afterlife being some tortuous memory feedback loop?

I get that it wasn't and it's alternate realities but I don't care enuff. The only aspect I enjoyed is that consciousness was explained as a subatomic particle separate from the rest. Cool idea there that I've thought about too when trying to assuage myself on my feelings with regard to death.
