I cannot visit /co/ anymore because 40% of the threads are about how Marvel is "pandering" to people other than white males by putting girls and minorities in stuff.

The only part of 4chan that wasn't /pol/ (that I visited, because I haven't visited most of them) was /lit/. It was the only part of the board where you could hope to get an intelligent conversation maybe 50% of the time.

Much of it was just people being hipsters and being "ha you have shit taste I'm more well read than you are and have read more obscure things"

not that these Japanese people on the street represent a perfect statistical cross section, but most of the people getting upset about Scar Jo's casting are western whites. She does an awesome job. Hollywood obviously has a huge problem casting Asians, but a cyborg cartoon character ain't the most important place to make headway. (and obviously she's not playing a japanese character in the film. She's playing a robot that looks/sounds American. The white-washing was in the scripting/production phase. There are other Japanese characters in the film, including the great Beat Takeshi, who speak Japanese.)

I watched The Discovery tonight. It's not like the OA. It takes itself too seriously and isn't phantasmagorical and moving like the OA (I only bring it up because they've been compared to each other). The ending is lame. Where have I read about the afterlife being some tortuous memory feedback loop?

I get that it wasn't and it's alternate realities but I don't care enuff. The only aspect I enjoyed is that consciousness was explained as a subatomic particle separate from the rest. Cool idea there that I've thought about too when trying to assuage myself on my feelings with regard to death.
