John Bender recorded voraciously between 1978 and 1980 at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Not even song titles could slow down his creative pace, as he named all the tracks after their position on the original tapes. "36A2," for example, was cassette #36 side A, piece #2. To close the DIY aesthetic circle, Bender made sleeves by hand with no two covers alike and pressed the LPs in hyper-limited editions on his own Record Sluts imprint.

I Don't Remember Now / I Don't Want To Talk About It, Bender's first album from 1980, is the holy grail of minimal lo-fi electronics. Layers of fractured melodies, distorted synthesizers, hollowed-out rhythms and claustrophobic vocals unfold over the 40 minutes of this lost masterpiece. "It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl," one of Faust's greatest songs, is perfectly deconstructed by a distinct punk-meets-experimentalist sensibility.

While I Don't Remember Now is impossibly rare and the man behind the music remains shrouded in self-imposed mystery, the real surprise is that it has taken 35+ years for listeners to discover Bender's warm, art-damaged immediacy.

This first-time standalone reissue is recommended for fans of Pere Ubu, Brian Eno and Robert Ashley. Limited to 1,000 numbered copies. Red vinyl with hand-stamped jackets, each one unique. Liner notes by John Bender.

"This is the ultimate burnout biker-psych masterpiece. Finally repressed directly from tapes to flawlessly restore the cigarette burns, Harley fumes, and cocaine hangovers of the original ride. This is a 40 minute recipe for complete mental breakdown. Included on the Acid Archives' list of Top Ten LPs Most Likely To Be Owned By A Serial Killer.

Finally gave in an picked up Junk by M83. I was prepared to be sort of "meh" about it, but it surprised me. A totally different experience than Hurry Up, We're Dreaming -- and definitely the weakest M83 album to date -- but there's some really cool stuff tucked away in there. Walkway Blues and Time Wind (feat. Beck) in particular really hit the spot.

Everyone keeps talking it up so I figured I would give it a shot. It was used and cheap.

I like how it's split up so its only one song per side.

My favorite part of the record is easily the hype sticker:

"Dance on it or just stand in it. Every New York Night. Liquid Liquid." - Arto Lindsay

Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree guy)

It's a concept album about a young lady who died alone in her apartment and wasn't discovered for nearly three years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Vincent

Crushing stuff. Album is gorgeous but a bit long-winded (as to be expected from Wilson).

That "Dreams of A Life" documentary about her made me terrified about living alone. So sad.

It's probably still on netflix or youtube if anyone wants to watch.

Yeah, I live alone and probably have a rather unhealthy interest in the subject of people dying alone/in obscurity. It's definitely been fueled even further by my dad dying alone and estranged from everyone (I hadn't seen him in 20 years by that point) and not being found for about a week. Even before that, I remember when Layne Staley died, reading up all I could about his living conditions and all the accounts of the few people who had seen him in his final years. Just an unquenchable morbid curiosity.

Hell, I didn't even realize that was what this album was about; I just wanted a Wilson/PT fix!

Still though, fascinating stuff. Great album, too.

Limited re-press of the absolutely sublime soundtrack to one of the greatest Super Nintendo games of all time: Earthbound (called Mother 2 in Japan)
