Main takeaways here:

1.) It did me a LITTLE bit of good to hear Jack actually speak, and to find out a little bit that he doesn't appear to be a piece of shit. He seems legitimately excited to play on the tour and his one answer was sincere.

2.) James' "he's from England" thing slayed me. Which leads me to...

3.) Stage banter is going to be so much better now. It's been a rough go for the last 11 years up there in LOTS of regards, but that stage banter has been horrible. Billy would always try to go for it with Jeff and somehow even after 11 years didn't ever seem to grasp that he wasn't going to be as much fun to talk to/with as James was. Billy's whole "Jerry!" thing with the thumbs up actually got me too.

4.) Yeah, I could really go for that guitar. It's damn cool looking.

5.) Towards the end there, James and Jeff seemed to have a decent interplay going on with that whole "Will you take my band on tour?" question. It's probably hard to be James and not just treat Jeff like an obsolete piece of equipment that somehow is still on the tour bus.

6.) Really hoping that these setlists are good and are so much more than a greatest hits parade.

I kept thinking while watching it how entertaining of an interview it would be if D'arcy was there. She's fucking funny and her and Billy going back and forth is the type of interview that would drum up interest for people wanting to go see some shows. I'm still surprised that Live Nation haven't tried to force him to get in a room with her to add her to the tour last minute, it'd be great publicity. I really wonder how much knowledge the people who booked this tour actually have about the history of the band.

Highlight for me comes around the 13:16 minute mark. Oh and William Patrick has make up on his face to give him defined cheek bones like a lady might do. Zeitgeist? More like Zoftig... Amirite kids?

At this point if Darcy magically jumped on the tour last minute I’m pretty sure the internet would break and all parts of SP’s broken fan base would be paying crazy amounts of money for tickets, and pissing their pants at shows. It would be like Beatlemania in the arenas!!!! And obviously Billy knows this and wants the band to be the biggest thing since sliced bread all over again.

I swear if I were him I would be down on my knees offering ungodly amounts of money, sight unseen, for her to just show up and stand on stage with a bass. Like I’d be offering my cut of the pay. The extent to which it would restore the band’s credibility and hype factor would be 100% worth it even if her playing was a little sluggish. It’s not like the band’s live reputation was ever built on Dream Theater-like precision anyway. It’s supposed to dangerous and chaotic and imperfect. If I were Billy my only goal in life would be to apologize 1000x times over, offer all the money and amenities, and make Darcy happy and excited to be a Pumpkin again.

But that’s just it, right?: Billy doesn’t have the ethic to be sorry, and Darcy doesn’t have the ethic to care about the money.

The differences in their personalities are just too great. And tragically, like you said, it’s just not the same up there without the tension between them. Sad.

Reminds me of my theory that everything Weezer has done since Pinkerton is shit because they lost Matt Sharp. Weird neurotic egomaniac geniuses like Billy and Rivers need people like Darcy and Matt to check them. But once they get successful they can’t hold onto them and end up surrounded but “yes” people. Very sad.

Also...not for nothing, I’m a bassist....and it’s not surprising to me that the bassist in these bands are the ones with the strongest back bones.

Corgan insists on using his Reverend for self-promotion to the extent where it obviously affects the performance. I hope he has some strats that he switches to live.

Those railhammer pickups are cool for riffs, but sound like shit on lead-stuff.

To give us an idea of the IQ level of the average person who took this interview seriously:
