You're totally missing what I'm saying. It is better to have rational faith than faith based on authority. And science is rational faith. Because as you say, the entire universe could be an illusion.

science is about humility and open-mindedness. it doesn't presume to answer the question of whether the universe is an illusion. scientists speculate but there's no faith in that. they just have to accept what's been proven and everything else is an open question

Modern irish were the "sick man of europe" for decades and faced their own discrimination and hardships--the war of independence, the IRA and Northern Ireland-- that were created by the legacy of colonial oppression. Only very recently has Ireland seen "prosperity."

In the case of the american irish, they immigrated to america over a period of decades, and were initially met with much dirision, because of the color war in this country they were eventually absorbed and diffused amonst the white population. So we have silly crap like fighting irish and yahoos on st. patrick's day, is this really that terrible to me? Not really. Do i think we can assimilate between color and culture? Yes, absolutely, it's integral for survival. Do I think we are there now? LOL NO.
