if it weren't for the silly-ass post you made right above this one, we coulda had a real nice, touching "we're not so different, you & i" moment

but you RUINED it now, i hope you can't sleep & you DREAM about it!

You like Because you are? I guess it's got kind of a cool vibe going to it but it just goes nowhere

Now that I think about it I could have definitely included Heavy Metal Machine on the list. Never liked it. Always used to skip it, now I just never listen to it.

I mean what's the deal with Heavy Metal Machine anyways? It was like he was trying to add another "rocker" to the album but it's just so forced. And what's he even singing about? Is he just butthurt about Kurt Cobain having this appreciated legacy or something?

There really is a lot of crappy music from the Machina era. Total mixed bag though.

It really seemed to me that they were trying to ape the vibe of 1979 during a lot of Machina, much like they did with Adore.

I think the smash-hit success of 1979 really was responsible for the Pumpkins stylistically different sound/approach post MCIS.

well, kind of actually
it was more of the "still hatin on the IMB" thing that did it

I mean, considering the context of the time: SP fading in to irrelevancy while Nirvanas legend continued to grow

ya but that's just cos foo fighters made everyone realize just how good they had it in those early 90s days

if byrney sp were somehow existing via a time machine that had been created between sp 1 & 2 i'm sure more people would have been salivating over adore & machina then, too

That's definitely true. Adore and Machina were hugely maligned albums at the time, but with the gong show that we've all witnessed lately they seem like exquisite masterpieces in comparison.

I can't get over how if MTAE had better lyrics it would have been a way better album in my mind. The lyrics just ruin it all for me. But in reality, the guitar progressions and vocal lines are actually pretty cool. Throw some dynamics in there, cool guitar solos, and better lyrics and you have the best post-reunion album hands-down.

The music is solid but pretty uninspiring. If the lyrics had any depth whatsoever then I think you are right, it would probably have been one of the better SP2 albums, if not for the fact it is mercifully brief.

I really like "The Crying tree of mercury" also, the sound of it as well as the songwriting.

yeah it's the depressing Pumpkins that I fell in love with and it features the loud distorted guitar interplay.

It sorta reminds me of a sequel to Love almost... And I've always been very fond of Love.

crying tree of mercury suffers for the same reason as raindrops + sunshowers: the first five seconds are cringeworthy, or at least shocking. both great songs though

You put "Ava Adore" and "Set the Ray" in the worst-ever album by them, you have no right to define or judge any of their songs.

"Quasar" is about the only song Billy has written/recorded that truly embarrassed me. Obviously things like "Widow Wake My Mind" and "Astral Planes," come up a lot, but I can at least dig the vibe Billy was going for, even if he failed in an epic way getting there.

"Quasar" is essentially "Superchrist" without the the benefit of Jimmy. The lame riff, the generic ass leads from Jeff, Billy's "ride-on" lyrics and Mike's drum sound all make this the worst thing Billy has put out. When they were streaming Oceania on iTunes the week before it came out, this saddened me to hear.

I've never really minded Quasar. I thought it was one of the better songs on Oceania... Of course that speaks volumes as to what I think about the rest of the album.

What's shocking about the intro to r+s? The fact that he opens the song holding a note? Loved that song from day 1

I agree. Nothing wrong with that intro. I like it a lot actually.
