It seems to me that if Mellon Collie was coming out today, you would still pick up on something and find something you'd dislike, so that you could have an excuse to never listen to it again. Am I right? |

Not just saying that to provoke a reaction. I genuinely feel that. It’s actually a brilliant album. Was NOT expecting that.

Yeah, it's definitely some of his best work since the original run. It's got the familiar aspects that we love from Billy's music and it also covers new territory with a more mature kind of vibe to the writing.
Really quite an impressive sprawling release. I hope this record can garner some good attention for the big ole guy |

The more I listen to it the more I'm in love with it. After all the disappointment and all the criticism, sometimes, perhaps, a little exaggerated, I think its fair that we show some appreciation for what Billy has just achieved.

Listened to all of Cotillions on a long drive last night. My takeaways:
There’s only a handful of songs I liked. Maybe two or three. It’s a trudge to get through. Most of the songs sound the same. Overly wordy lyrics and lacking in melody. Definitely more Americana influenced than Ogilala and I’m not sure that’s my thing. Final verdict is that Ogilala was a far better record, won’t be listening to this again. That doesn't mean that his singing and the mix of it isn't horrible. It is. His voice sounds shit and he put it way in the spotlight to enjoy al the shitty aspects of it. Too bad, cause there's some real nice instrumental stuff going on. |

i haven’t been able / willing to listen to the whole thing yet. stopped after half way and each time i try to pick it up again within a minute i decide to listen to a different artist.
on ogilala there seems to be a consensus that archer was the standout song - is there any similar consensus about 1-3 top songs on this one? for what it’s worth i recently listened to ogilala again and enjoyed much of it more than i was expecting |

This is fucking good. Cotillions (the song) is the most captivating thing he's put out in years. I actually believe Corgan felt genuine emotions when writing these songs. It really might be the best thing he's done since Adore. It's certainly the most "complete" album he's done since then.

Seriously why is the production make his voice so nasily and annoying, I can't even listen to the album because of this.

You guys do the same “it’s actually good this time” thread with each boring album
This is baby’s first Americana. If it were one song it would be listenable, but it drones on and on. At least he sounds inspired, but this thread is full of hyperbole. Also, Zeitgeist sucks |

I keep trying to listen to it and after a few songs I think “I kind of hate this” and “I’d even rather listen to Boris rn”

it reminds me of oceania. it feels better than average pumpkins of last 15 years, but then you realise that it's a very low bar to clear and you will most likely never listen to it again.

His voice definitely sucks yes, and the way he chooses to sing sucks most of all, but apparently you haven't noticed yourself, and/or chosen to ignore all the posts about it being completely way too high in the mix, which it is
