I hear it's not good to use fabric softener because your linens get addicted to it

They're not addicted, they can quit any time they want.

Maybe american softeners suck?
I love the smell and how soft my clothes feel if I use softener. If I don't they feel more coarse. |

No, they are coarse because they're used to softener. Keep washing them without and they go back to normal

Big-time yes! Love the smell and they really do work. Especially for linens. Some may say it's a waste of money, but when you're wearing clothes for the majority of your life, you may as well live with the little added comfort.

If you have a dryer then your clothes will be soft. Line drying leaves them a little crispy in my experience.

No. Doesn't do a damn thing and just smells nauseating. Just another way to part tooks and their money.

I already wash my clothes and that leaves a scent w/scented detergent so why do I need some toxic waste mixed with more fragrance to be melted on my clothes? When I moved my stuff over and my mom wasn't doing my laundry anymore my clothes went through a detox so to speak and weren't soft but then they became soft. I didn't get used to it. There's no difference now. Never buying or using fabric softener ever
