Hollywood's RockWalk® In the early eighties, millions flocked to Hollywood to pay homage to its rich television and film history, while no one had taken the time to honor the industry and individuals that were on the cutting edge of changing the face of America. Everyone had forgotten the music.Celebrating The Greatest Names In Rock 'N Roll In November of 1985, the void that the city of Hollywood had neglected for so many years, was finally filled by immortalizing those individuals and groups who had helped change the face of 20th Century music by creating Hollywood's RockWalk®. Dedicated to honoring those individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the music industry, Hollywood's RockWalk® became a reality on November 13, 1985 with inaugural inductions of Stevie Wonder; Eddie Van Halen; Peavey Amplifier founder Hartley Peavey; Creator of the Gibson Les Paul guitar Ted McCarty; Martin Guitar founder C.F. Martin III; Marshall Amplifier creator Jim Marshall; and synthetic drum head designer Remo Belli. At last, the Rock 'n Roll world could claim for itself an institution every bit as compelling as Mann's Chinese Theatre, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Located at the site of the famed Oriental Theatre (now Guitar Center Hollywood) Hollywood's RockWalk® has honored such creatively diverse and equally as accomplished individuals and groups such as Aerosmith, Van Halen, Johnny Cash, Dick Clark, Willie Dixon, The Doobie Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, KISS, Les Paul, John Lee Hooker, The Moody Blues, Phil Ramone and Smokey Robinson. Unlike Hollywood's Walk of Fame, which allows the public to submit nominations for future inductees, all Hollywood's RockWalk® inductees are chosen solely by past honorees. The individual or group receiving the most first place votes is designated as Hollywood RockWalk's® next inductee. In this way, inductees are chosen by real "music authorities," those who would best be able to gauge his or her contribution to Rock 'n Roll history. Truly dedicated to those who have made a significant contribution to the music industry, Hollywood's RockWalk® celebrates the greatest names in Rock 'n Roll, and is a tribute that every music fan must experience. |

Seems like a cool accomplishment seeing that past inductees chose them.

In all seriousness though, I do think darcy and james should be included. If they were invited to do so, and turned it down, it would speak volumes about how much it must've sucked to be in this band. I can understand if they didn't want to rejoin and live the experience over, but to not want to be a part of being honored for their accomplishments seems weird. And of course many will assume they just weren't invited to attend; either way pretty much sucks. They're a huge part of the legacy of this band, and it seems weird for them not to be included.

think of the weird awkward tension there would be though if james, d'arcy, billy and jimmy were being inducted into this as a band that is actually still continuing to play music without the others around. i feel like it wouldnt be very happy...

yeah, it would definitely be filled with uncomfortable tension at this point. I just feel sad that they aren't a part of it. When I think "smashing pumpkins" i think of all four of them. I'm not an sp2 hater by any means, but the "real" sp to me will always be the four of them. Regardless of what they did or did not play on the albums.

This is also good news on two accounts...They're inducted and it may be their last day in California. May 1st they're back in Chicago!

yea, this blabbermouth article takes it one step further and says only Billy and Jimmy are being inducted, vs. that they're the only ones attending. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=94872 |

didn't they say if they ever get inducted into the hall of fame they'll do the full reunion? yeah, i don't believe it at this point, but if they did get inducted, now THAT would be fucked up, to leave those two out. I guess we still have another 8 years for these guys to all kiss and make up, since they can't be inducted until 25 years after the release of gish.

for the official rock-n-roll hall of fame i believe it could will happen with original lineup still (potentially). shit there's bands with bigger inter-personal issues that have appeared on stage together for that.

I feel uncomfortable starting a popular thread that went somewhere.
I'm not quite sure how to get out of this. BTW. Anyone notice Bill and Jim are still in good physical shape, while James and D'arcy have both packed on the pounds post-SP? |
