Is billy trolling the music world with this song, I mean it is called being beige and the song sounds like sorta coldplay or whatever.

I think Adore's more of a winter/spring album

I just wandered over to Facebook to read the comments, and the song is getting a lot of mixed reviews, with most falling in the "it's boring/inoffensive" side. so it's not the RS comments that they have to worry about. Last edited by Araneae : 10-20-2014 at 12:29 PM. |

This is pretty inoffensive. Was expecting something with significantly more balls

Also, we should all know by now to never invest much in what Billy says an album is going to sound like. I can't remember a release from him that has sounded anywhere near what he eluded to.
Oh and, hearing him attempt to sing this live should be... interesting. |

I agree and it was probably meant to sound like a winter album. I'm just saying personally, when I nostalgia on Adore, those are the first images that pop in my head just because of where I was at when I first heard it.

Besides the intro (kill Howard) it's okay in my book.
The demo versions without poppy synth overkill might actually sound good. I take this over every single Tbk track and over 2/3 of Oceania any day. Their goal was an inoffensive doodly dee album, and they made one. And the single cover looks better than any artwork since... since Machina? Last edited by pavementtune : 10-20-2014 at 12:33 PM. |

this is basically another 'safe' oceania style song, was expecting/hoping for something a bit heavier.

Oh, lord
This comes from someone who, by Netphoria standards, might be considered a defender of Billy, but…
This track is beyond disappointing, and I was already expecting something bad. All of you saying this is similar to Oceania… erm, wtf, this song wouldn't pass Ocenia's quality standards in its wildest dreams. The sound, in fact, is screaming TBK. In a bad way. Like… "The fellowship". This is, hands down, the worst first single by Smashing Pumpkins ever. Billy is taking this generic radio-friendly sound to new bottoms, and if he want us to believe that this stuff is coming from his heart and that it's not some attempt at radio/internet exposure… this time I'll have lots of trouble trusting him. Now I think back of the official site entries and it's like I have no clue what they were doing. And, once again, if Billy is to trust at all now, those close friends who were supposedly praising the album… A deja-vů of frustration for me. 9 songs, for god's sake. This album had just 9 songs. |

Super bland, super inoffensive, this is really Corgan by numbers to the highest level.
Back to 2010 standards Sigh |

After a lone cursory at-work-headphones style listening, I'm pretty comfortable making this statement:
Best thing he's written since "Stellar" back in 2007. We'll see if that changes. |

So, listened to it twice on my shitty phone, and three times on my comp.
I like it. If it wasn't what you were hoping for, that's just silly. How many times did your expectation ruin something? I think it has a very anthemic feeling to it. I think the drumming sounds *huge* but understated.(i have good speakers on my comp,) I love the falsetto vox and the background layers are interesting, not cringey. The chorus is the song, but that's ok, it's a pop song, deal with it. |

I mean is anyone else hearing how potentially awesome the drums are going to be on this album?

Love the song, can't wait for the album! Those expecting MCIS or Siamese Dream version two are just pathetic. Get over the past, Billy has and all power to him.

i think most people just want a song they like, that sounds like something only corgan could have conjured. beige is characterless in my opinion. it has nothing to do with wanting another sd or mcis.

It's not a problem that the song is pop. 'Honestly' was a great pop song. 'Untitled' was a great pop song.
But this doesn't hold a candle to Billy's songwriting abilities at all. |

Here's a question regarding the sound of the track that maybe someone with a better understanding of things as in M-U-S-I-C can explain to me.
Here's the new Foo Fighters song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3B0Vx_yQgo#t=137. It's not great but it has this warm matte production quality that sounds pleasing in my brainbox. Everything from the Pumpkins since the reunion has this sharp, hollow, metallic production quality to it that just fucking hurts my ears. Is this simply a mixing/mastering style? The type of equipment? |
