I was so let down by the last stuff that I almost forgot this countdown. Anno Satana is alright, at least I like that guitar melody. Album might have some hope if more of the songs are in this vein. Birch Grove, on the other hand...

The truth is probably that behind all of Billy's nonsense and arrogance about his music changing is that he probably just got sick of playing classic SP style after recording a million songs and still to this day having to play them over and over on tour. If he wants to use synths then that's fine. Its never going to be SD, Pisces, or MCIS but that doesn't mean its totally crap either
It's not about the synths or the electro elements it's about the fact that these are repetitive, sub, sub par SP songs with superfluous female BV's that add no emotional clout to already emotionless songs.

Billy has put out some fucking great electeoinc music.

These are just totally underwhelming and totally uninspired.

Why would you make the best drummer in the world use a machine. This should just be WPC solo project.

The other problem is the songs get more forgettable as you listen to them in order.

I'm not even sure if any of them are as bad as the bad stuff on Teargarden, in fact I'd say almost certainly not. But they're all the same plodding beat, they sound like they're in the same key even.

I think Billy does need a good producer, someone who will push him a bit, unlike Rick "let's record them all!" Rubin.

I just don't get the point of this project. It really might as well be TFE2.

Just like Shiny, who is going to be listening to these songs in 2 months or even 2 days?

I thought Shiny at least had the excuse that the band just got together and banged the songs out so they had something new to use on the tour.

It's funny, Zeitgeist was probably the last album to have any kind of theme. The rest have all been collections of songs without any real collective theme.

I dunno, I think Oceania hung together pretty well as an album. Started out rocky, then some mid album meandering, then back to rock songs towards the end. Tied it together somewhat. It's the only SP2 music I go back to with any kind of regularity.

I thought Cyr would be an album I could do that with too, but based on the new songs, it probably won't be. Unless the songs we haven't heard are exceptional. But Billy really missed a trick not spreading different genres across the LP sides. That would've grabbed people's attention and made things interesting. He could've easily recorded the band remotely.

Anno Satana has a good guitar hook. But they play it pretty much the entire 4 minutes while Billy vomits over it.

Birch Grove I didn't make it through.

Exactly, i said simolar.

Come on man... mona has simolar vibe and drums....

Birch is hell of a downer... his singing especially in the bridge is what i started hating with teargarden.

He has a unique voice/ most loved and hated...but using it this way....doesnt do it for me....

Ohhh..you all hear the guitar riff in satan? Wow...wohooo...that will please those guitar shredding freaks ha?

It is so logic in which directions songs are going.

There is no surprise,,, or weirdness.... no courage ...just blank emptiness in the songs

Actually, I'm with you. Also, listening to these six consecutively is just like listening to Hummer - Rocket - Disarm - Soma - Geek USA - Mayonaise.

Billy has Jimmy back, James back, his 28 year-long stolen Stratocaster back...

...and hes just nah Im good. Gimme a keyboard, Pro Tools, and some backup singers.

I feel like if anyone lazily took 6 hours and made all 6 tracks with a computer, and then gave them to Billy to record super embarrassing shaky vibrato vocals with lyrics that no one can identify with, itd be the same result.
