why look who it is

James Iha

He... been working slowly (but steadily!) on a solo album - his first since Let It Come Down and looks forward to finishing it this year.

To paraphrase, his solo album follow up is halfway done (in his mind).

Less The Bells and more Blew Away, that would rule.

The 3 SP vids on his site (that link to EMI's youtube) are "Tonight, Tonight", "1979" and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings". There's a picture taken by Yelena that looks recent, and in his links section he links to APC and many others but no SP. Scandalous!

-the more personal side of his songwriting.
i can listen to this LICD about as many times in 5 years as i can watch requiem for a dream.

-apc was a progressive rock band.

I buy those statements. Yes there's the whole "Billy started The Smashing Pumpkins and did some work with the Marked guy and blah blah blah" but the first two put-a-stamp-on-it official members of Smashing Pumpkins were Billy and James. As for contributing songwriter, that's correct. Soma. Mayonaise. And all his own tunes under the SP label. That counts as "contributing songwriter".

I've always wondered how the song Go ties into the whole Machina concept. Or maybe it doesn't.

I didn't realize how busy James has kept himself.

Technically, it's not a lie. He was the co-founder, Billy has said so himself. As for songwriting, he might have been referring to his own songs that showed up on SP releases (and of course mayo and soma).

That's not a surprise. It seems like all of them (madm, clove, d'arcy) have kept in contact in some way or another with each other (except Billy). Also, the official sp site sucks.

Can we have a such nice, professional and mature official website for SP?

The SP site may be lame but at least it doesn't look like it came from "generic web design 101". Think that bio section is ever going to updated ever? Christ, when Iha's next solo album comes out I betcha dollars to donuts they don't update the bio to say it's finished.

As for SP, latest and fastest informations are all coverd by SPFC, Netphoria, HU all those fan sites (I love you guys for all the info!), same as years around 2000. Then, when I think what official web site can be stand for? I assume it can shows the image of the band in artistically way.

he didn't say co-songwriter or anything. he contributed some songs. contributing songwriter. seems like a no-brainer to me.

in context, it gives the impression that he had a larger impact on the songwriting than what he actually did. you all know this is bullshit, stop acting like it's not.

I think ver. 2 of the SP site was interesting, it had a bit of a community going, it basically copy & pasted SPFC tour info, it had videos, news, interviews it was pretty good and somewhat unique. It was a band website. But then people made fun of Billy, he got uppity because people slagged on him for a not-charity, and shitcanned it. The SP site now is just Teargarden Download spot, but I'm okay with that while it's lame it's at least distinctive. Iha's site could have come from any random website generator of any random celebrity or musician. I can foresee it being updated frequently to never.

I like the website - beats the hell out of that shitty SP one they have now. The only thing worse than the SP webpage is the SP myspace webpage.
Oh, and it's nice to see that James has remained friends with more people involved with SP than Billy has.. I wonder if James is more destructive than Jimmy in Billy's eyes. I'm surprised that Billy hasn't yet twisted things by claiming he fired James too. Half of Billy's animosity towards James is probably because he left before he could be fired.
I hope SP dies in a fire and Billy dies of AIDS.

We are waiting for Moroni to take him to the alternate Nauvoo Temple in space and sacrificed upon an altar in the great hall. It will happen.
