yesterday the Insurance Group sent out this email to let the agents know that a certain amount of their cost share dollars were expiring at the end of the month

as you might expect this was a rabble rouser and the last two days have been nothing but the helpless, the stupid, and the angry. At an obscene call level. 4 people were here yesterday and we had 305 calls.

Keeping tabs on how your shitty job is getting a lot shittier after leaving would definitely be good for making you feel better about leaving it.

omg me too.

but i think keeping tabs would just be unnecessary and not conducive to anything positive. you're leaving it because it's shitty so move on completely.

I might be recalling the wrong person, but are you in the Austin area?

If so, I sent you a PM on a possible job lead.

Nah, it's the internet, I don't hold strong opinions about anyone I don't really know - I also don't really recall any particular beef with anyone in particular as I tend to let those things go even in my personal life.

You are needing some real life help, and I'm happy to give that if I can.

i'll take a look but i'm really trying to avoid doing telephone CS at this point

CS in general, really. it's a go-nowhere proposition every single time.

I'm not in CS. We have a large CS presence here, but the entire floor I work on has not one CS position. Worth checking out.

i now work for the american cancer society and LET ME TELL YOU IT'S BEEN EASY QUITTING SMOKING

anyway, the ACS call center does a number of things that make me think they are competent:

1) since we are talking to cancer patients some of these calls can be potentially emotionally devastating, so they are totally not dicks about you taking lots of breaks and actually say up front "we just want you to concentrate on calls so when you're not on a call your time is yours" people are surfing the internet and reading books and stuff. this is inconceivable to the call farm i was at before where they expected you to do an enormous mountain of work "between calls" although when that was is a mystary

2) they have a thing called a "peer coach" who is a step below the supervisor. they don't sit in queue but are avaliable to assist with any call taker with any issues that they need in addition to doing d2d work that needs to be done. THIS IS A POSITION THAT I LOBBIED FOR MYSELF AT MY PREVIOUS HELLPLACE AND THEY DENIED BECAUSE "IT WASN'T FAIR" TO MY "TEAMMATES"

3) Six weeks of training

4) more days off

5) annual raises (well when times are good, they told us that they had to do without after the economy crashed and ACS went through corporate restructuring, which is fine, it's a non profit).

6) A feeling of making a positive impact on society, by assisting cancer patients with issues relating to their disease, treatment, transportation, financing, and on and on and on...

of course one of the employees made sure to warn me that during the late shift that i'll be working there's a lot of crazies but TBH i can deal with them a lot more than angry, argumentative insurance agents yelling at me because i can't do the work because they're calling me to yell at me about being unable to do the work all day

i'm glad you found something more fulfilling. the job itself sounds like it might be stressful, but it's also nice to not have every penny's worth of labor wrung out of you. you know, being treated like a human being and all.

and i don't know if you've experienced this with any job before, but working for a place that has a net positive effect on society is a very good feeling. it can almost outweigh shit pay, no benefits and a huge workload.

congrats dude. DONT FUCK IT UP

i'm a bawse right now

its frustrating being in a training class that's full of 20something dingleberries that seem to have practically no job experience but tbh all the trainers are reviewing my sim calls and going holy shit man that was great and they have no bad feedback at all...for a group that says they "love feedback" that's pretty important

and i'm pretty sure i got the highest score on the "mid term"

it is kind of scary to think about having to tell someone what stage 4 cancer is or talk to dudes about their erections after prostate cancer and i tend to squirm a lot during cancer lectures, because i imagine it happening to me, so it's still kind of fear inducing. we'll find out what happen when i get on the phone after next week
