Lightbulb Ultimate MACHINA: 1 hr - pick the best. YOU make it!

I'm pretty sure I made this thread before, but, anyway...

MACHINA. 2 (maybe 3) albums. So much bad, but yet so much good.

So you, yes, YOU!, make a single album tracklisting. Make it an hour long (or so. If you're 5 minutes plus or minus, its all good), use any and all tracks "released" on MACHINA and MACHINA II. And pick your best.

Here's my list:

01 - Glass Theme
02 - The Everlasting Gaze
03 - Cash Car Star (EP ver)
04 - Soul Power
05 - Stand Inside Your Love
06 - Let Me Give the World To You
07 - Here's to the Atom Bomb (New Wave)
08 - Dross
09 - Blue Skies Bring Tears (Heavy)
10 - Speed Kills (alt. rock mix)
11 - Glass & the Ghost Children
12 - I of the Mourning
13 - If There is A God (piano)

Now. You. Go. NOW!

this is going to be tough

let me give the world to you
dross
stand inside your love
atom bomb (m2)
vanity
saturnine
blue skies bring tears (arising!/faoemm)
go
speed kills (arising!)
with every light

that's about 40 minutes. maybe stick arising! "home" in the latter half somewhere. ~40 minutes is pretty much the ideal album length for me, and i'd be stretching it to include any other songs in there anyway. they just don't do much for me any more

That's pretty decent, I like how you picked the better Speed Kills (fuck the SIYL single, that one is suxorz). LMGTWTY is an interesting opener, really front-loading it. But it has that distinctive kickoff that makes you listen. Only 2 M1 songs, though. Surprised couldn't get another one to make the cut (I mean, no IotM? Come on!)

That's not bad, very evened out from both albums. Though Crying Tree? Really. Huh. I thought only terrorists liked that song. I liked how you stuck it in between the two mega-happy "home" & "with every light", though. Very subversive. But, once again, no "I of the Mourning"? Come on!

i don't like machina much. i listened "i of the mourning" when i was making that track listing and found it kind of boring. "age of innocence" is decent but it doesn't really gel with the rest of those songs

I just love the dynamic shifts in that song. very similar to how "SIYL" plays out, but I love how Mourning ends. Considering how alot of Machina sounds are just one way straight through (cough Raindrops & Sunshowers) the variety in IotM works in its favour.

I'm actually a fan of sticking in songs that don't "gel" to give it a difference. Heck, I ended my list with piano "If There is a God". Maybe not the most original way to end an album with a quiet piano solo song (and done before on Adore), but, Hell, I like it.

If I were to construct Machina in the way that I think would best relate the "story"...

Glass's Theme (indispensable for its knowingly tongue-in-cheek action movie posturing)
Vanity (i think this song is very poignant and feels quite universal to me)
I of the Mourning (glass' resolve to save err...whatever it is)
The Everlasting Gaze (glass rolls into town, full of piss and vinegar! yeah!!)
Wound (reassuring himself of his pure intentions?)
Cash Car Star (bringing it to the masses and sticking it to the man, etc)
Try Try Try (emo revitalisation of the soul is widespread thanks to GLASS)
Raindrops + Sunshowers (perceived "change" taking place)
Glass and the Ghost Children (glass reflects on his deeds in solitude)
Home (returns HOME to find his cat dead. mourns his loneliness)
Soot and Stars (has a divine vision, reaffirms his destiny to sacrifice himself for...rock...eternally)
Age of Innocence (credits roll)

then I think it'd be much better if it just concentrated on the tunage as opposed to hammy-ham fisting in a half-hearted concept album. Just pick the best songs, yo. Hence, the thread. This *is* a really solid album in there, but its burried under alot of dispensible tracks.

Fuck the speeds kills SIYL version? That song is great! I like both versions alot, but I wouldn't go that far saying the SIYL version sucks. I actually like the SIYL version better.

Eh, its way too lost up its own rear in sythns for my taste, thats when Corgan's stuff tends to make my ears bleed. Compare it to the straight out rock guitar deathmetal ballad version from MII (and the one that was done on tour), and that version just kicks the SYIL version's ass all over the place, takes its name, and then goes home and fucks its woman.
