Besides set list, what was the performance like? Were the songs drastically different and re-arranged from their studio counterpart or kept faithful? Any pictures? Interesting tidbits/banter? Vibe between BC and rest of the band?

apparently it's the rolling stones cover.

The Smashing Pumpkins kicked off their 2016 ‘In Plainsong’ tour last night at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, OR with a very unique setlist. The show had a Siamese Dream portion, Zwan’s “Mary Star of the Sea,” a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Angie,” a “Space Oddity” David Bowie tribute, and a cover of Hole’s “Malibu” which Billy Corgan co-wrote in 1998. Thanks to Mitch Quintana for the “Malibu” video clip, which features Katie Cole on vocals and Sierra Swan on bass.
never heard of amarinthine before. new song?

this actually looks like a really awesome setlist, especially "Identify" i've loved that song ever since it leaked

I...this is crazy. After Billy's reaction to the leaks I don't think I've ever been so pissed at the band, but this actually made me respect the Smashing Pumpkins in their current incarnation. In 2016.

the only reason it sounds ok is because you can't hear belly.
i bet he ruined space oddity and angie in the usual, embarrassing way.

so is this a hommage to courtney love, or just the typical belly move of reclaiming "his" song? (remember daydream from 2007.)

I think he did it because he thought it was his. At least some part of it actually is.

So did they stick to the more acoustic style throughout? Especially interested to hear whether Jimmy used brushes mostly or if he bust out them stix

SP are going to release a genuinely good album after this tour. miles beyond anything SP 2.0 has put out to date. they'll do so by focusing on the strength of billy to write acoustic music at this point in his career and attempting to simply write good songs without any ulterior motive/attempt to get on the "radio." calling it now.

im telling you guys. he's burnt out of whatever forced conversation he was trying to have artistically and is now getting back to the music. he recognizes that the in plainsong style is the band's strength at the moment and is acting accordingly. he's also a father, which i think brings him a certain level of peace/purpose. look for this to be the final album for the time being.

he has a contractual obligation with whatever label they're on right now, he has to release one more album.

well the reissue is being held up by some other contract/issue. contracts cancel out other contracts i suppose.

1 contract + 1 contract = 0 contract.

the math checks out.

don't worry Billy has got that covered. He'll put the album everyone wants on the shelf, then 9 months later release some Oceania-type record. and he'll blame the fans years later when asked about it.

ah yes. the man who, often to his own detriment, refuses to duplicate any album is finally going to duplicate one of the albums that didn't sell. makes sense.
