Default For Translucent, Brewer, Syco, etc. -- FINALLY my analog audio tape list

Ok, as promised, here is the list of all my analag audio tapes.
These are ANALOG AUDIO TAPES only (none of my digital or vinyl collection is listed, and i will get to the analog video tapes later).

I don't know gen info (didn't care about gen back then) and have lost all email and correspondence related to these. They were all trades or b&p i setup through listessa, usenet or irc while in college during my time in the dorms. If you did a B&p with someone named spaceboy in Madison, WI during 1995/1996...it was me. I had so many packages coming and going the mail room geek reported me to the dorm RA.

Their names are purely how the tapes are labelled, some just by other fans. I have not listened to them or inspected j-cards in detail prior to making this list. i was just feeling wired, awake, and bored...so i thought i would type it up quick. Don't think there are any rare finds here, but maybe the splra guys can spot something.

I'm not sure how well 09-24-1996 or 11-04-1996 were circulated, or if there is a CD transfer of either of them. The rest of the stuff I have or have at least seen in digtal format before - much of it is still available on the hub...

But I'd be interested in knowing about the history of those two recordings- does anyone have a CD copy of either?

those shows are both 2 tape shows, i assume to be full (i still need to check them against spfrc or splra). If i remember correctly, winnepeg was excellent quality....but again, i don't have quantitative information on the gen.

and yes, lots of that stuff i have already replaced with digital format.

I've got 11/4/96. AUD>ANA[Marcsounds>WM-d3]>ANA-M>DDC-3>CDR-2. I've seeded it on Zomb in the past but the torrent is dead now. If you'd like it I can put it up on the hub or on another tracker if preferred.

all *could* be worth transferring

1996-07-10--best version is ANA-?>CDR, yours could be lower gen

1996-09-06--see above

1996-09-24--circulating version has alot of problems: Missing third encore. Dropout in Siva, comes back without left channel for rest of show. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida tease is cut. The circulating version is ANA-2>CDR, if yours doesnt have some of these, it could be worth patching the second gen with it

1996-10-26--best version is VHS-4>CDR, yours might come from a lower gen VHS or an entirely different recording

1993-09-09--best version is ANA-?>CDR, yours could be lower gen

1991-06-23--see above

Sound Opinions--definitely worth a transfer

1993-07-26--worth it *if* its the audience source or an FM master

Thanks a lot Davin.

I suppose you have no ideas about the source of these recordings?

I think these are worth transferring :

-1996-09-24 Winnipeg - this one for sure since you said it sounded good and the only circulating copy I'm aware of sounds not that good. If you need a sample i can send it to you.

-Sound Opinions...I guess your copy is a master?

maybe these too :
1996-10-26
1995-02-21
1993-09-09
1991-06-23
1993-07-26

I see there is now an ANA-L>CDR version of 1996-09-06, so you can probably disregard transferring your copy.

well, my source infos may be off (i got these in ~2000) but i have these sources of 07/10/1996:

07/10/1996 US Air Arena Landover, MD anaM>D-EQ>DAT>CDR CSB>d6
07/10/1996 US Air Arena Landover, MD DAT>CDR DSM-6>D7

i listen to the dsm-6>D7 version of the show all the time and it doesn't sound like it has gone through any tape gens...

i just checked spfc and splra and they don't even list a dsm-6>D7 source, just an ecm909a>D8. it sounds like a sonic studios tape to me, but it could be an ecm909a. i don't know anything about ecm909a's, only sonic studios.

they might be more correct--less time for things to get messed up...will add DSM-6>D7 in.

no problemo, sorry for the long delay. and no, no idea on most of the gens.

Sound Opinions IS a master direct from the radio. Its in really good shape, other than the bit where I am speaking, which has been degraded because i've played it for lots of people. Of all the dumb fucking luck, there's a bit about "orville redenbocker" (he died that week in 1995) that got cut during the tape auto-flip-over from side A to side B during recording. I know this because it was during my convo with Billy and James....OF ALL THE DUMB LUCK, MY OWN CALL. Guess I was speaking right at the 45min mark.

HOLY SHIT i just remembered something. Another master I have. My 3 Feet High is not really the bootleg "3 feet high" (i printed out a j-card label that was supposed to be for the boot). Its the direct radio master of the XRT broadcast of the Metro show from 1993. i listened to this show A LOT...so it probably sounds worse than the bootleg which was probably digitally mastered in some way, right?

does the boot have all the banter and what not? "you can't just call 'em a local band anymore.....blah, blah, blah"???

Anyway, please shoot me the winnipeg sample if you can, since there seems to be some decent interest in that one for starters.

The circulaing version (or at least the version I have) is FM>ANA-2>DAT>CDR and about 140 min in length. I seem to rememeber that it was the entire show.

I also remember that the quality is pretty good, despite it's ANA-2 origins. I wonder if this new one could really be much better (especially after your description)

sweet, thanks ******...I will check them this weekend against the tape sources...and let you know.

P.S. you may want to edit those urls so they don't get killed quicker...i.e hxxp instead of http.
