it's kind of surreal to be listening to stuff like mouths of babes on vinyl...

the only reasons i could come up with for why i would want to buy tafh on vinyl came down to 1. mouths of babes and 2. marquis in spades.

i know it's completely personal, but i absolutley despise that format. so ugly and demanding.

although i guess if you had an entirely seperate "box set" section of your collection it wouldn't be so bad. i just tend to neglect box sets because it's just an ordeal to deal with the imposed packaging and all of a sudden you find yourself knee-deep in something you don't necessarily want to be knee deep in. it's just too much to deal with.

What exactly am I looking at here that you refuse to have in your collection? Multiple different box sets?

I actually like all of that stuff, it's like the same thing that attracts people to vinyl (large artwork, notes, physical connection) but to another level, especially with vinyl box sets. I have a box set wish list.

Gigantic extra-wide cardboard slipcases that hold several or more records. I'll admit it's completely a personal preference why I don't like them. My problem is I'm never looking for 5 records to play, it's usually only 1.

i've owned a few LP box sets. one i recall really only playing one record from it. the rest only casually. still have several 7" box sets. usually ignore them because it's too much of a hassle to get all the records out. a few i want to play more i just took out of the boxes and put them in plastic sleeves to mix with the other singles.

9 times out of 10 when I "stop" listening to a bunch of records it usually ends because I pulled out a box set. It's like 2 hours later and I don't have a clue wtf is going on.

when i was at the records store today i thought of that box set, because as i was rifling through the "s" section i saw like every sleater kinney album ever in print.

and i thought to msyelf 'what could the box set possibly contain that's not all these still in print records?'

i flipped to that new mogwai - come on die young $100 box set and at first i was like "woooah awesome" and then immediately was like "lol wow you're joking". it's not like you're getting a deal by purchasing the set, and i guarantee if they were offered seperately at $20/each you wouldn't be buying them all.

as i mentioned in another thread the most economical way for existing record companies to make serious turnover money is from people willing to splash out on collectors edition limited box sets.

i mean there's no double 12" set that costs $40 dollars or a triple set that costs $60 but suddenly a 5xLP (or even less!) costs $100 or something.

wake up
