I'm happy you seem to be better at picking books you will enjoy than you are at picking movies, D.

The Sun Also Rises: A
I read this a while ago too but I wanted to again. I'm still not totally sure what the point of it is but I like it a lot. |

i just started reading that sonic youth biography. so far its okay. the typeface is too big. makes it seem like a big book when it really isn't.

Catch-22 - A+
Pretty easily my favorite book of all-time. Flawless masterpiece. I laughed, I cried, I sat stunned for several minutes at various points. I'm not even going to put the movie in my Netflix queue because even if it's awesome it won't come close to the book and might detract from it. |

i started Pillars of the Earth recently because I had some long flights and of the books for sale in an airport, this seemed my best chance at something worthwhile. I'm about 250 pages in. so far i do like it, but one thing that absolutely bugs the hell out of me is the way the author will occasionally demolish any subtlety by recapping what he just wrote in more plain english, as if to say 'i'm pretty sure most of you out there woudln't have caught any of the nuances that took place in the dialogue back there, so let me hit you over the head with them, in painfully plain english'
if he had more faith in his readers and wasn't so overbearing in this sense, and it'd be a lot better to me. i guess he wrote thrillers before this book, which probably explains it |

i just read two oprah book club books - middlesex and the road. middlesex was pretty good even though it was a bit uneven in parts. i'm still pondering the road.
oprah had nothing to do with me wanting to read them. |

I'm gonna start up my own book club where we just watch TV (Law & Order) and occasionally watch a movie which is based on a book.
