well a democratically elected people's republic would be better than the dictatorship of the proletariat. I think having a United Workers Council as a sort of congress and rip off checks and balances Republican* stuff would sufficiently alter Marxism in a way that would create something new.

and before people go "but then wouldn't capitalists be able to have free speech and run in elections," just think of all the american communists that were outed, deported, defamed, and jailed as enemies of the state. The government/media/society has the ability to impose and maintain an economic status-quo and that is no different in "free" countries.

If I may, people are simply not equipped to make optimal decisions for a group as a group. It's like how they say that a camel is a horse designed by committee. So I like me an individual in a leadership position who can make all the hard decisions for what is best for the whole. However I don't think what's best for the whole is insanely wealthy and lavishly-living people telling people wallowing in squalor what to do... especially if the unbelievably rich depend on the poor to carry commerce on their shoulders and see little to no benefit directly.
