PH is not a good album, but it has some good moments. Actually most of Thom's best vocal moments are on Pablo Honey and it's hard not to enjoy Johnny Greenwood ripping on the guitar in a more straightforward rock environment than on their later albums.

I don't really have a ranking system of which album is best, I just have different Radiohead album moods at different times.

Well, actually my ranking system is 1. Every album that isn't Pablo Honey 2. Pablo Honey

Also, am I the only one who's never really thought of Radiohead as a sad band? I mean, I understand they have sombre songs, but they are also really energetic and a lot of the "sad" ones, I find more neurotic/spastic than depressing.

Sadder ones are probably "Let Down" and "Videotape."
Radiohead is super depressing post-Bends, and even then Bends has it's moments. Fake Plastic Trees sounds so postapolcalyptic. But Kid A is haunting, Motion Picture Soundtrack is like some haunted theater track. In Rainbows has shit like Reckoner and Videotape.

i would like to backtrack here a little and say fuck off to whoever says In Rainbows is not a fucking brilliant record.

it's impossible to pick one favorite radiohead record because almost all of them have incredible peaks, but somehow as a cohesive piece that's greater than the sum of its parts, In Rainbows is definitely high up there.
if only for Faust Arp. that song is like nadia comaneci's perfect 10 embodied in songwriting

I legit am bored by Nude, Reckoner, and Videotape

And they are positioned so that I never go more than 3 songs without having to hit skip

Otherwise I'd rank it higher probably

I accept your opinion as legitimate but it is so difficult for me to understand how you could not love Nude and Reckoner

radiohead's online presence is disappearing. apparently their website slowly dimmed to black and then vanished, and all the posts on their social media pages have vanished. UK fans were also mailed mysterious flyers with lyrics on them.

so is this shit about to drop early or what

who was the first major artist to release an album for free online? I know Billy did it way before it was a trope in every band's history, but certainly MII was not the first?

The strings sound really muted and choppy. Gives it a really rhythmic sound. I don't know if this is indicative of them moving towards more non-electronic stuff.

alright, first listen:
that song was alright. i thought it started out pretty strong but it kind of dwelled in the second half. i expected it to explode more than it did.

really hard to determine what the record's going to sound like if that's the single.

Wow I actually like it a lot and it's getting better with repeated listens

This is having a better impression on me than the first listen of Lotus did

It's kind of meandering for a single though idk, that's not even a bad thing necessarily

Wish there was a little more of that neato low, buzzing guitar at the beginning and more of that uncharacteristically fun bass and less of those choppy strings, which were nice but kinda wore on me by the end of the song. Song also felt a little haphazard at times, unusual for a Radiohead, in which the production values are typically clinical.

Still, I'm digging it. Looking forward to the rest.
