Mike got mad at me recently trying to take a fry some guy had JUST left on his tray (didn't touch. He only ate the burger). I was annoyed at him for caring what I do. I'm a trash can

Tour arenas with Billy, Jimmy, James and a suitably hot bassist playing only SP1 songs in a 2-3 hour show that included multiple epics (Soma, Silverfuck, Porcelina, Ruby, For Martha, Drown, etc) and precious few "ambitious" covers.

Just found out Counting Crows are touring the most prestigious arenas on a double bill with Matchbox 20. Corgan was scheduled to play the same venue on the Oceania tour but it was canceled due to low ticket sales.

There is no redemption for SP anymore, as far as reviving them as a relevant band.
About the only cool thing they could do is revisit the glory days (which in a way they did with the reissues). Do a re-union tour. Release some live bootlegs from their glory days (ala Pearl Jam vault releases), etc. Sadly I'm not even sure a true reunion tour would generate any interest. I know I'd still love to hear more of the soundboard recordings from around 1992-1997. Obviously the MCIS era was recorded to the highest level possible with multi-track recordings. Not sure SD and prior was covered in the same way, but it would be interested to hear more of what's in the vaults than the live selections on the reissues. |

It was weak. That whole Oceania tour was selling like balls and the Vancouver date was the only one they cancelled. The guy on the radio said they had sold under 3000 tickets when they canceled it the 2 or 3 days before the show date... And that was with the half-price ticket promotion on groupon.com.
Corgan never offered up an apology or an official explanation as to why they canceled either. I wasn't too upset about it, as I hadn't even bought a ticket yet (the idea of seeing Oceania front to back wasn't exactly something I care to see, but I just felt like I couldn't not go), I was just gonna get one at the box-office the day of the show... But truth is I was kinda looking forward to it. Was sorta the nail in the coffin for me at the time. |

But really Billy Corgan and his hired hands playing a new album front to back and they sell well over 2000 tickets? Nothing to bat an eyelash at.

It's weird to think the Zwan tour ended (partially) due to low ticket sales
Like, if people didn't want to see Billy and Jimmy and some other cool guys playing pretty decent summery alt rock...how did the Oceania tour have more than 10 attendees? |

I think this is a cult band beyond the break-out hits
You know how say Violent Femmes could sell arenas because Blister in the Sun But then the band still inspires a cult like following of Hallowed Ground, with a much smaller subset of people |
