i've never seen Dark so, feel free to share a clip that has whatever sound you're talking about lol

as for it being a grower, i liked it on first listen tbh - though i think Deftones as an "entity" are a bit of grower (upon which, after you get into 'em, most of their material is fairly instant)

I got to hear a Deftones sound check a few years back [I’m way too cool for you guys, stop everything now]...

Stephen really worked to dial in his volume...

Hopefully they’ll keep changing up their set lists for each show, each night, just like SP hasn’t lately.

I like it, but on the other hand I like everything they’ve ever done. It almost feels like a retreat to diamond eyes based on idiots not liking kny or gore? Am I crazy for thinking this? I’ll revisit in the morning.

The disrespect for Gore on this message board is mind blowing to me. It’s got the most white pony feel of any of their records imo.

you're crazy for thinking people who didn't like Gore are "idiots," lol

on the other hand the majority of the fanbase fucking loves KNY so if anything this album just sounds like a more direct follow-up to that one

ftr i like Gore a lot, not always crazy about the production/mixing but y'know, it's been 4 years so i've pretty much gotten over it!

Diamond Eyes is the Deftones Disney album, no subtlety, annoyingly simple melodies. Gore was am aberration but still has some magic.

Ohms was Deftones by numbers, nothing spectacular, I like Genesis, but it's not peak material. I love the parrots parrots parrots bit.

Diamond Eyes was the last one that I really loved through and through. KNY is okay.

Gore is the Zeitgeist of Deftones albums. There are a few songs to enjoy, but not enough to make up for the rest of it.

Maybe you need to listen to KNY a few more times. Diamond Eyes is way more instantly gratifying (for those that like it!) but nowhere near as deep, subtle, varied and rewarding as KNY.

anyway the couple of songs we've gotten so far are much more like Gore tracks in terms of songwriting, just have the stronger sound of something like KNY (tho yes, i know Terry Date is the one producing but it still sounds more KNY than Pony or s/t) so i dunno what you dufuses are on about!

Get out of here with your Disney opinion.

I spun it the other day and went right back to the self-titled afterwards.

It's okay. They've done much better.

I thought Gore was great. I like the more shoegaze influence at times on that album. My hot take: White Pony actually has a few filler songs on it. Not as solid as Around the Fur which is Siamese Dream level perfect.

Ohms leaked

Well, a 192kbps copy. I'm staying away from it until proper quality comes along.
