I hope he does deluxe reissues of the deluxe reissues. Just for the cringe factor.

“I wanted to tell a different story of our highly regarded and extremely important alternative rock masterpiece Gish so here’s five more discs of crap that anyone who cares has already heard plus reimagined cover art.”

gish is just barely in my top 5 sp albums. if tafh was an album, then gish would be out of the top 5.

2. tafh
3. mcis
4. m2
5. pi
6. gish

1, 2, and 3 are tough to split. 4 and 5 are close too. i guess it depends if you count all 25 tracks in m2 or just cr04-05.

lol

as a hommage to our box set genre-defining seminal Gish reissue, we're reissuing the Gish box set. Every cd from the original box set will now be separately sold with 5 bonus cd's of itself.

Important question: isn’t it technically still Gish month since Gish month never officially ended?

i've been re-thinking this. maybe it's a bit too critical, and trying to work out why... like it sounds great, and has some awesome songs.

having only 10 tracks (does i'm going crazy count?) makes me think it's a bit short, or light on material. more than 10 mins shorter than both sd and pi.

also knowing the quality of what else could have been on there and was left off, not just the b-sides but all the pre-gish stuff too - feels like it could have been so much better than it was.

east, stars fall in, not worth asking, slunk, jesus loves his babies, nothing and everything, under your spell....

If only Starla was on Gish. Such an amazin track. Deserves more than just being on a b-side compilation.

it didn't exist yet, wasn't recorded or played live until '92.

and from the pi liner notes:

"my friend aneta still says to me that this song should have been on siamese dream. but back again to that no record 2x rule. this was recorded at the same time as plume, and was also intended to be a demo, but we needed b-sides for our pretty XXXXXXXXXNX worthless i am one u.k. single (the dark continent) so in a way plume and starla were their own single if that make makes any sense at all"

why do people get so worked up about tracks being or not being on certain albums? like it still exists does it not? you can still listen to it and it plays a pretty pivotal role on Pisces which essentially plays like a well-crafted album in its own right so like, for the love all things SHINY and BALD just let it be!

i guess because people still consume and refer to music mostly through albums.

so you're right, fans can create their own comp mixes and listen to any of the songs, it doesn't matter in that regard.

* but reviews are mostly of albums.
* most music playback systems are more designed to play albums than any other type of compilation.
* if you go to a party and they ask you to put an album on, you aren't going to try and create your own comp mix on the spot, and you aren't likely to have a CDR of the mix in question with you.
* you can't as easily recommend other people listen to you custom comp mixes.
* albums are more official, so work better as presents, etc. than CDR comps.

and in general, albums typically define a significant body of work by an artist. b-sides don't unfortunately, not even b-side compilations. the artist will to some level have to decide what goes on an album and what doesn't, and it's interesting to look at those decisions and see what others think, what fans think, if they agree, what they think would be better, all that sort of thing.

it's the same as how people discuss deleted scenes in movies, or cutting scenes that were left in - what would make the movie better, and what would make the movie worse.
