In hindsight it's easy to say this is where it all went wrong. Billy wanted to have his American Idiot -moment SO bad. His knack for composition was still there, sorta, but ever since Zeitgeist, the lyrics have been painfully sub-par. Compare that shit to Machina even.

That being said, I enjoyed some live stuff a lot. Even with faceless session musicians, in their best moments, they could still bring the magic for that tour:

Yeah, Zeitgeist definitely felt to me like Billy trying to make his own American Idiot and failing terribly.

Back then I had friends. And what did I do? Play Zeitgeist to them.

Dude Z was super political. In the booklet there's a picture of the grim-reaper at the presidents podium.

Apparently, Jeff has been a pumpkin for more than 10 years, longer than Darcy was.

Yup. Needs some better vocals and it's perfect. There's no way RTB produced it though, it has a lushness the rest doesn't. There was an interesting sound going on...it just needed some fucking dynamics and Corgan not singing like shit. He was really creative at this period, think of all the music released.

And SuperChrist was legit. Just needed some better fucking vocals. I love trippy psychedelic shit though.

Stellar and Superchrist both slay. The metal parts of Gossamer too. There was still a little light left.

tomorrow is actually the 10th anniversary of Z's release. I saw the band at the record release show at 9:30 in DC and yeah they were really good. Gossamer went on for like 40 minutes and the crowd thinned. It was way way way too long. But it was worth staying through because they closed with Fuck You

Yeah I was pretty excited for Z tbh. downloaded the first show. watched netphoria crash lol.

i think if tsp jusy stayed billy and jimmy plus hella drugs they would have pwned. also if they struck up a friendship with Boris it would have helped. i imagine loyts pof drugs would be involved in that as well.

what's stupid is i'd happily stay and watch d'arcy and james and jimmy and billy jam for 40 minutes. even though they're collectively less talented or whatever

lol no

I was so pumped about Z coming out. I listened to that Paris show a ton of times. I listened to it throughout the day before the show on 7.10.07 and I think that was when I started to accept that this was not the same band as the old SP. I wanted to like the album so much that I kind of convinced myself it was really good for a while, but even at the beginning some of the songs couldn't do it for me. Starz? Come On Let's Go? sorry Bill, this was the beginning of the end.

the show was still fucking awesome though, there was a barbershop quartet that sang them on and then the lights went out and Jimmy started drumming in the dark and balloons came down from the ceiling. They were actually originally going to film some kind of video outside the club and they gave the crowd "protest signs" and shit like that (I still have one) and Billy showed up in some kind of crazy classic car wearing like a fuckin' robe with stars and moons or some shit, but nothing ever came of it.
