how many of those double albums are 80mins? (the length of adore..)
MCIS is 120 mins! it's practically a triple album.

Agreed, also I think the album is much better than most of the other albums on the list.
Mellon Collie is the only album ever created that runs the full spectrum of rock music.

It means that the vast majority of RS readers/voters are 35+

There's also not one album from outside the rock genre on that list.

Just noticed that Hendrix's Electric Ladyland isn't on there. Weird omission from a readership that worships the classic 60s rock genre.

I'm not sure what kind of readership they have these days

The editors at RS are just as clueless about their readership given their own sad attempts to stay relevant with their dumb cover stories. When there is little to no talent left at RS and in pop culture, there's always shock value to turn to. It always sells.

The readership polls from RS usually read like only white males 35+ are allowed to vote, but the actual RS compiled lists aren't that much better. They usually show a bit more variation in genres, like Jazz, but they still shy away from rap or hip hop albums.

Also, don't forget they praise Nirvana like no other band. Seriously, there have been like ten mentions of Nirvana in every issue of RS since Nevermind came out.
What a bunch of losers.

That love affair reached a high point several years ago when they placed Kurt Cobain in the top 10 in one of their greatest guitarists of all time lists. They've since adjusted that list but they still can't seemingly go an issue without mentioning the band or one of its members. I like Nirvana, I think they were a great band, but fucking hell RS overdo it.

I do, and if you don't agree, give me a few examples of other albums that run a more or less full spectrum of rock. An album that has songs like 1979 next to a song like TOASE. I'd like to hear that album.

Why should I have to? There's plenty of facets of rock that MCIS doesn't cover, like punk, post-punk, post-rock, jazz fusion. If I name an album that has two different songs with any of those genres, then it automatically covers part of the "spectrum of rock" that MCIS doesn't.

Let me rephrase that then: Mellon Collie covers more spectrums of the rock genre than any other album ever made. Here are a few: Alternative, Rock, Heavy Rock, Alternative Rock, Alternative Metal, Hard Alternative, Heavy Metal, Indie, Indie Rock, Art-Rock, Art-Pop, Prog-Rock, Gothic Rock, Prog-Metal, Pop-Rock, Dream-Pop, Grunge, Acoustic Rock, Acoustic Pop, Psychedelic Rock and elements of Shoegazing.

Wow, not just alternative and rock, but ALTERNATIVE ROCK as well! Impressive.

Nowhere near alternative metal, hard alternative, or GRUNGE on the spectrum of rock.

Acoustic rock, acoustic pop, fucking seriously dude?

I'll give you alternative rock, but no-one would argue that it's not an alternative rock album. There's a few dream-pop songs, some of them with minor elements of folk or country (which isn't at all unheard of in dream-pop), and at two or three metalish songs.

Quit jerking off.

I think the point he's trying to make is that SP is the greatest and most broadly innovative band since The Velvet Underground

Are you fucking serious? You can hear acoustic pop in 33, WOCOAT and even in the slower TMD. Just because songs are slowed down, doesn't mean they aren't pop.

I'm just saying that Mellon Collie has more styles than any other album. Give me another album or double album that has such a great array of styles and I'll subside.

Haha, you know nothing of musical styles. No alternative metal? Are you insane? Zero, X.Y.U, TOASE, Jellybelly, Fuck You are all songs that could be classified as metal, or alternative metal.

zero practically became a thrashpunk anthem since it seemed like the more they played it the faster it got

Are you one of those guys who spends 20 hours a day editing the music genres in every infobox on Wikipedia?

No, I've just listened to a lot of music. I can distinguish a lot of different genres.
