They are saying this is his darkest and most experimental album.

I'd say MBDTF was and 808 was more experimental due to the nature of it compared to his other albums but this is definitely his loudest album and unique overall in it's sound compared to his others.

so sonically this album is as interesting as anything he's done, kind of disappoint it's not all his own joints but i guess that's to be expected
lyrically i mean...damn i'm wondering if kanye thinks that more fame will bring him happiness but when it just ends up making him more miserable. some of the most brutal point-of-fact misogyny he's ever put to wax and that's saying something. have been listening to late registration and college dropout recently and i really miss that hungry, happy, just breaking out underdog of those records rather than this surly monolithic hyperfamous pop star. i think homie needs to go into seclusion somewhere in the south of france for a few years and just enjoy sunshine and shit. unfortunately he's practically married to a kardashian because the little head did all the thinking |

The industrial / electronic influences are really interesting. His more aggressive style of rapping feels right at home with the darker more intense music. It sounds like he's trying to make some social / racial commentary with some of the lyrics. I was kind of surprised by the lyrics to I'm In It. Wasn't expecting him to be so graphic. But in general it feels like he really is making strides to be taken seriously as a lyricist with this album. And this feels like the true follow up to 808s because it further explores his interest in electronic / synthesizer music.

i mean seriously hardcore you take a shit on this guy after he's made an incredibly difficult and experimental work by quoting a toss off line from Watch the Throne? Get the fuck out of here.

Kanye's catalog speaks for itself, he is the greatest hip hop artist to ever live and we are in his prime.

and i'd agree with that but STILL NOT THE BEST MC
i don't know how to explain it, he's the most relevant hip hop artist and possibly the greatest of all time and he's done it all without being deadly with his verse |

the new album is burrowing its way in my head like a tick. i was ambivalent about it at first but now i realize how it hurls you into darkness that was just flirted with and foreboded in dark fantasy. standard yeezy you have some standard throwaway tracks and some trashy embarassing lines but its something i listen to everyday. the saturated buzzsaw riff on the first track encapsulates everything going on in my life right now
