it's extended to 3 years for certain red ring errors. complain and you get what you want. sony makes worse shit. every ps2 i've owned has crapped out in a few weeks. everything electrical is subject to failure. brand loyalty won't get you out of shit that is just going to happen to some people.

The first PS2 I owned died after less than two years. The one I own now still works but makes funny noises, as if something is loose inside of it.

I bought the MS extended warranty, although you should have a three year warranty if the console overheats.

My SNES is still at my mother's house. I think I still have Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Rise of the Robots.

RotR was this fantastic use of that FX schpiel from StarFox, only, the game blew goats big time. It was probably the best looking game released, yet top five for worst playability.

Also, I think I would stick with the Nintendo products. I love the PS stuff, but at least Nintendo still seems to be putting out quality products.
