Default Favorite Guitar Histrionics

-the fuckin nut bend during the first solo in Hummer, wtf.. how does he do that
-the pinched harmonics right before "destroy the mind..." in Fuck You live
-the flanged drop-in solo during Jellybelly live right before the last bridge leading into the chorus (see brixton)
-making james play barre chords so he can play open chords and reach out and close his eyes and touch his heart and shit, god i hate you bill

also @Brixton Jellybelly, Jimmy plays the snare pattern as rimshots the third measure of the main riff to double James' part and it sounds amazing, 1:06

Rocket outro - the way Billy goes from the pick scrape into the G chord by upstroking over the frets really high up on the neck.

In fact the whole outro, ritardando, dual guitar solos, the upward bend, the aforementioned pick scrape and G chord hit, into tremolo picking, glissando and crescendo.

I love that sustained unison squeals at the end of Porcelina, and when it finally pulls off to the major seventh harmony.

I guess I'm an outro man.

Also a major seventh man. A lot of my favourite songs feature them.

Pumpkins outros are the best. No singing, just jamming

Rocket, fucking Hummer, Ruby (studio and live), Porcelina, Drown, Starla, Rhinoceros, etc

Not sure if it's properly characterized as "histrionics" or even who's playing what parts but the exuberantly silly explosion of guitar squeals and flanging that close the last few seconds of the studio Jellybelly has always dropped my jaw

Pumpkins outros are so good. It's hard to take a song in a new direction effectively after the climax, but classic Pumpkins pulled it off amazingly all the time. All the guitar noodling at the end of Hummer. damn

first he bends the string (dropped to D), hits it, and then releases, so that it sounds like a dive

for what a great guitar player bill is, there are surprisingly few guitar schtick moments on the entire massive SP catalogue

i could easily list lots of personal favourite moments but when i think about it, they're mostly just about clever and creative usage of the guitar and not "histrionics"

Well at least live he actually starts with the bottom string tuned E. Then he hits the bottom string and tunes it down to D.

I almost never listen to post-reunion SP these days but the dual octaver solo in Bring The Light RAWKS SO HARD.

The harmonic chord in Zero at ~2:29 is pure genius.
