there were a bunch of popular 90's punk bands, sublime, lagwagon, bigwig, guttermouth, gob, pennywise, propaghandi, NOFX, reel big fish, no doubt, L7, hole, bikini kill,
+ a bunch of emo bands
green day (even though renaldo said they weren't punk)

i just listed the bands my friends listened to. it's important to understand that genres evolve... i didn't like 90's punk (except the grungy type, most of it was 'ska') but that's still what the scene was, and since i was in high school i know it was there. you can't say that there was no 90's reggae just cause the bands didn't have a roots sound.

they peaked in the early 90's. That's when they toured the most, were courted by record labels, had their breakthrough album etc

They became mainstream because of the breakthrough of alternative rock

Fugazi became mainstream?

Please stop pretending you have any clue what you are talking about.

So tired of kids on here pretending there are some experts at what haapened in the 90's

this moved me. made me a little sad. melancholy, if you will.

Nardwuar is interviewing Hole at lollapalooza 1995. Courtney is very fucked up and literally being held up from falling down by an handler. there's a great moment in the beginning when Kim Gordon walks by off camera and Courtney yells at her. this is only a day or so after Courtney punched Kathleen Hanna in the face.

anyway. Nardwuar is doing his thing, giving them stuff and asking questions about their rider. At 2:45, he hands Courtney some trading cards, and she starts, like...cry-laughing. She hands them to Eric and he bursts out laughing, too. At 3:05, we see that one of them is a card with Billy on it. It's impossible to read but Courtney says Bill is listed as "Mr. Charisma."

The thing that got me is the way Courtney looks at the card. She's on the ground, getting picked up by her handler, still sort of heave-laughing as if she's crying, and she just STARES at this card for 20 seconds, lost in reverie. And then, at 3:43, "I'm not interested in the other two, I don't sleep with them."

you're welcome in advance for my terrific post.

Quote:
Kurt was not at all friends with their lead-singer Billy Corgan, Billy was Courtney's former boyfriend and Kurt still was very jealous of him (Kurt wrote Heart Shaped Box after he had found a heart shaped box filled with Billy Corgan's love-letters, Courtney had kept this box. This incident made Kurt extremely jealous.).
