it's disarming for the first 20 seconds and then the first one was boring and annoying, and the second one I was like wtf scratch her damn back already, and I skipped through the video and she must scratch her back for all of 30 seconds total what a fucking let down.
I love back scratches, so that was a very disappointing video. I have no need to vicariously live moments where a girl taps her fingernails on the back of a brush. |

Yeah well anyone who can do that shit into a camera as if a real person was there, and sustain that for half an hour, is someone to be scared of I think. Crazy people

I like asmr videos so much I used to think I actually had it until it was explained to me that I would physically feel a tingling feeling in my head or something like that. I just feel slightly high and very relaxed and content

Yeah I would have that feeling when I was young and could hear stuff like many pencils scratching on paper during a test or that game like 7 up? And other random scenarios but not anymore. I don't enjoy whispering videos or any of these asmr things. Its weird. Fuck you

creepy youtubers aside, i had never heard of this before. I didn't know it was a thing. It works on me, though and I always thought it was something that everyone experiences.
I've watched a few of these videos now and several of them were very effective. |

Been watching these for a while. Chills me out, helps anxiety. I guess a lot of people, like me, got this growing up watching bob ross but had no idea what it was. I don't care what the video is about I just put them on in the background and browse the web. Some of the role plays can get really weird.

I do not know if I experien this. I have never experienced this before I just read about it. the videos make me feel very good and relaxed and almost like someone is actually brushing my hair and whispering in my ear. but I don't know if i feel actual tingle in my head?

i've been thinking about this thread the last couple of days.
i understand what this stuff is designed to trigger, and sometimes it almost does sort of work on me. but the more videos get posted, the more i analyze how much of a creepy manipulative ruse this whole thing is (the motive behind which i'm unsure of), and all i know is that a person who can fondle a camera for 30 minutes as if it were a loved one in a particularly calm and blissful situation - that's just terrifying psychopath shit to me, and makes my trust in people (and women in particular, issues courtesy of my ex) ever so much more fragile. |

i don't believe they can really manipulate you in any way... they're merely hypnotizing you.
the motive is probably like any other popular youtube channel. get views to generate ad revenue. and if you help people feel better, you feel all the better for it. |

the manipulation is in the veil of cynicism over it. there's something warped about it
surely vixnix can do a much better job wording what i feel about this |

I don't think it's creepy personally. It is a little strange at first, but ultimately it's not so different than other situations where people essentially simulate affection with a stranger to make them feel good, e.g. getting a massage. I also don't know if I actually have ASMR I guess because I only successfully really get the tingling when I am stoned, but it does make me feel very calm and at ease, and sort of like someone is actually doting on me and paying attention to me. We are probably programmed to crave this kind of personal attention... other primates love grooming each other and shit.
