aeroplane, you came back at a really weird time. there's usually not all of this happening like it is right now. sure there are blowouts between trots and eulogy and occasionally someone else but mostly it's fairly peaceful.

From what I've seen in the short time I've come back, the culture has shifted. Everyone used to be irreverent, talk taboo shit, and try to outwit each other with words. And sure, we got offensive, but rarely did anyone take it personally (except Billy). They just took it as an opportunity to flame back.

It just feels super serious and personal now. But like you said, maybe it's just a bad spell.

I think the whole culture of the internet has shifted, and that reflects a broader change in our society too. Although there are certainly still bastions, gone are the days when the attitude was that you can say anything and there are no rules and everyone can deal with it or fuck off. The rise of the social justice warrior thing and the "new pc" or whatever is really focused on holding everyone accountable for everything they do and say. Without making any moral comment on that either way, I think it's definitely true that it has changed the internet, and that effect can be felt here. Everything is taken more seriously and more personal, like you say.

it's been trending this way for at least 3 or 4 years. we got rid of some of the most terrible people or they quit on their own, and im talking not about people who got in blowout fights but people who were genuinely shitty, like banana. everyone else mellowed out and real blowout fights have been concentrated among only a few people and only intermittently.

its much better than it used to be and the fact there are only about 20 daily/every few days users actually is pretty nice imo

I also find it hysterical what people get banned for now considering the truly life ruining evil shit that went on here in the past that no one gave two shits about.
