Take Me Down is boring. It's always struck me as a bad way to close out an awesome firft disk. The Bells or Believe would've been way better.

I always wondered why Billy and Jeff never played the Blew Away solo live the way it’s played on the album. The solo is the best part of the song, but they always butcher it to be some meandering random confusion. It’s a pretty standard, intentional string of notes—seems pretty doable. Maybe James should take on the solo if they ever play it live again.
That said, Take Me Down is really great, and a genius first-disc closer. It totally sounds like a lead-in to an intermission before the anger rock picks back up on Disc 2. |

Also, the remastered Take Me Down for the reissue actually has some noticeable, great improvements.

All the James songs are great. Go is his best SP song, Falling is his best solo song.

I think what ruins Take Me Down is how weak Iha's voice sounds. It sounds like a BC first take when he sings "soothe and heal" and "on the other side dear." In Go, his vocals sounds much more confident.
Anyways, at risk of an FBI investigation, can anyone share Billy's trashing of Take me down in the MCIS liner notes? I assume this is from the re-release? I am sure these only cast both BC and JI in a good light. Last edited by NovaFritz : 02-04-2019 at 11:01 AM. |

MCIS is an Alice in Wonderland journey and Take Me Down sets us up to go through the looking glass. No other song works as album closer.
I have to agree with the masses that Go and Blew Away are his best songs. James may not be a beast like Billy, but he has lots of subtle artistic sensibility. |

Yeah, like, the other people in the thread. I'm not taking myself very seriously. You shouldn't either.

Take Me Down has atmosphere and a pretty good melody. But that wooshy, trippy sound about it is very cool.

His solo work is not the best, unintentionally saving it for the Pumpkins. It would be interesting to hear him even attempt to pull off an album like TFE...oh wait, there's Look to the Sky??
