Have you read those reviews? Most of those reviews are coming from people who don't think that Billy has been able to write a good song since Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie. Oceania sounds like a miracle to them.

Ma Belle is a good song, the other 3 are garbage. What exactly is one supposed to discover with repeated listens of BTL?

To be fair, Orchid and God and Country could be decent if they were re-recorded.

I usually don't listen to SP live before they record the songs. Even back in 99 when someone wanted to sell me a cassette of the first show with Jimmy back a.d "a bunch of new songs", I was happy just wait for the album.

That being said, I did listen to that Paris show when Bill or the band played pre-Z stuff and the god and country they played (acoustic) was miles, MILES better than the Z version. So much so that, even though I bought Z, I ended up burning it with that version instead.

2007 called and asked for my opinion again.

BTL's drumming is sublime and full of detail. It is also one of the few songs in which the "Billy choir" works very well. The guitars, especially the Queen-esque solo, have great texture.

BTL is better than any song on Oceania.

apparently Morlock also likes Doomsday Clock, hands down one of the worst songs Corgan has ever written. I can get not thinking Oceania is hot shit, but I cannot get preferring Zeitgeist. Oceania is on the mediocre side, but Zeitgeist is a fucking trainwreck. It's like an album of b0lly trying to replicate all his most popular sounds and then squishing it all together into this big, bloated, uncomfortable album covered in awful vocals and metallic production. It does have some shining moments... Tarantula, US, Bring the Light, Z the song, and bits and pieces from other songs, but overall the whole era was such a sonic failure that it's just tarnished for me.

Basically every song on Oceania is better than Zeitgeist except for Wildflower and the Chimera, which are in teargarden territory.

I do think Bring the Light is a great song though, in terms of instrumentation. The lyrics derail its epicness, but it has a face-melting solo, and is kind of a departure from the standard way Corgan works the guitar in a song. Also it's kind of cool because it has an end part that gets dreamy and that doesn't really happen anywhere else on Zeitgeist

I like most of Oceania.

I still am surprised that Bill could write something this good. All signs were pointing to hell no

I don't even disagree that much with redbreegull. I just think that the Zeitgeist tracks that work are better than anything on Oceania.

I still can't decide if I like Zeitgeist or Oceania more. I honestly think Zeitgeist is better because even though it's a frustrating listen, the awesome moments that shine through are quite good, whereas Oceania is so middle of the road and dull that I never feel myself compelled to listen to anything off of it. There's no real hooks, there's no sense of dynamics really, it's just all really dull.

Those "awesome moments" on Zeitgeist are easily ruined by how horrible the album sounds.

the music is okay, but the lyrics are just awful. i don't even like the solo that much - it sounds like brian may.

I'd go with Feelalo. I love the "For I love what I sung" part, as it's probably the closest Billy's ever gotten to sounding like SP1 again.

The rest of the song is garbage though.

I wondered what Feelalo was myself but was too afraid of looking stupid to even ask. Now it all makes sense.

I really enjoy the meaty riffs and it totally sounds like it could be a Zero EP song - except for the dire lyrics! However, now that I hear nothing BUT "feelalo" when he sings it is actually rather an improvement over "feel our love". Thank you for helping me forget the real lyrics so I may enjoy it even more fully. Now can you please do something about "I lick the polished chrome" as I don't care to be reminded of a the car commercial, either.

remember that piece of shit G.L.O.W.? I swear to god I could've farted a better bassline. after all the potential that the 10 second Zoom clip in the Pastichio Medley and we get THAT?

2008 Billy was all about feelings. Feeling the G.L.O.W., feeling Alo, probably feeling up Chris Isaak

spot on.

you can thank me for his (her?) post deletion; I called them out on having damn near 100,000 posts and then...POOF, all gone.

All of the Teargarden tracks

Billy wanted them all to be individual gems, but they're all just painful nuggets of shit that you'd just prefer to forget about once they're released.
