I guess it's cool that I'm only 1 1/2 - 2 hours away from NYC, but I thought my actual area was more interesting. Oh and hey eulogy if you ever wanna talk indoors (and out) then I'm your gurl

Living space isn't terribly special. Just a standard Chicago apartment with three tiny bedrooms and one bathroom. Probably twice the size of our last place for $100 more per month. I stalked apartment sites for months and as soon as I saw this I pounced. Also kind of coincidentally I now live easy walking distance from six good friends (three couples). So that's been nice.

Oh I know but one really isn't. More of a big closet. The other two are very small but fit beds ok.

we also stalked apartments for months before i found this place on craigslist of all places. the day we came to check it out there was a shooting down the block and a woman came and sought cover in the basement where we were with the landlord.

tim was turned off by the shooting, but i loved the apartment and thought it was just rotten luck and bad timing but not an indication we shouldn't move here. tim agreed to call the landlord to see if she had any other places for rent and she actually was able to make him give this place a second chance. we're both glad for that. i just wish i were as smooth as she was/is.

I dunno but I kind of like it. This building was built in like 1895 or something.

Oh and after we signed the lease the landlord put in a washer/dryer. No extra charge.

Pretty killer. So much bigger than the ones at the last place. Last place was a gut rehab so the new shiny stuff tricked us.

I used to live in a 2 bedroom in Chicago for a while and it was pretty luxurious except for the mice and the neighbors. I now live in a little guest house that's rented out as a studio. It's basically a room and I share it with one other person and two small dogs. I miss having more space but we have a backyard with an avocado tree which is really nice. Unfortunately the squirrels and roof rats don't like to save any for us. It's a pretty suburban neighborhood which I don't love but we're right by the mountains and we can hike to a waterfall. We see bears and deer within a mile of our apartment fairly often so that's pretty cool.

We live in a one bedroom. I love the building and I wish it was better taken care of. We don't have mice, but we have rat friends lol. I wish we could buy the place instead of rent. The rent is low for the area. Rent is really high everywhere here

Plans for if we owned it: take down drop ceiling in living room and bedroom. Install nice historic light fixtures with appropriate medallions. Restore windows. Redo kitchen at least when it comes to the floor (boo, vinyl, yay, wood) and some better countertop than Formica... not granite. Paint cabinets a historic green. Some unpolished brass with patina to come would go well with that look, or chrome because the building is very Art Deco.

No plans for the bathroom except maybe a pedestal sink instead of cheap vanity. Otherwise I love the hex tiles and old glaze on the bone/white tile. It's a 1930s style black and white tile. There is like nothing else we'd reasonably do other than paint after that. Installing a washer and dryer would be a nightmare

Fun fact: the word "unique" can not be qualified. Something either is unique, or isn't.

Our new place is nowhere near a motorway or train station, and there are hardly any bus services. The only reasonable way to get anywhere is to drive, and the traffic is shit. So it feels pretty isolated here, even though really it's part of a cluster of sprawled suburbs. There isn't even a town centre here.

But it's nice and quiet and stuff and I still prefer it to living in an apartment in the city centre. This place will be kind of like a stepping stone to a nicer place to live.

for nightlife this is a fun place - https://www.yelp.com/biz/thomas-street-tavern-charlotte

or if you're on a date, like desert, martinis, or hookahs- this place is a safe choice - http://www.cravedessertbar.com/

- which was part of my problem with chicago. there's lots of great stuff there, but to get to point b from point a, its a transportation nightmare.
The Whitewater Center looks amazing. I'll have to see if we have that much money to spend though. Would definitely love to do the day pass. Thanks for the recommendations!
