Default Alice In Chains: Rainier Fog

Out tomorrow. Heard two of the three tracks out already and really enjoyed.

Haven't listened much since Layne died. What's a good song or two to start with after 1995?

I was really into Black Gives Way To Blue in my junior year of college, and I was super impressed by how good some of the songs were. Burtcanyon pointed out some big winners above

I also really like Last of My Kind and When the Sun Rose Again is extremely haunting.

I never listened to anything after that album though. I will probably give this one a spin.

A Looking in View is really awesome. I also really like All Secrets Known and Hollow.

Speaking of grunge bands with new lead singers... what's everyone's thoughts on the current version of STP? I seriously didn't want to give Jeff Gutt a chance when I saw them live, but the dude has some pipes. I downloaded their new album and I really dig it.

I was a big fan of Devil Put Dinosaurs Here too. Some great stuff on there IMO like Phantom Limb, Scalpel, and especially Hollow. Hollow kicks my ass there and back.

Three tracks in right now and Red Giant is absurdly good. No idea how they do it.

New album is very middle of the road, I was excited when it came out because the DeLeos hadn't put out a full length album in 8 years, but it's just okay, some nice stuff on there though. Jeff's a good singer though, the middling quality of the album is more on the DeLeos' lack of interesting riffs.

Jeff seems to be a good singer live. I doubt I'll see them though, I saw them with Scott so many times and then even with Chester, and while Jeff seems good, I just don't have an interest in seeing them live anymore especially after Scott and Chester's deaths, it's just too sad for me. The Dean DeLeo abuse allegations also don't help.

I thought The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here sucked, a few okay songs (Phantom Limb was probably one of the best). New album is decent on first listen or two, nothing great, I'll keep spinning it though. Nothing on the last two albums compares to Black Gives Way to Blue imo. That was a great comeback album that revived their career and legitimized DuVall as part of AIC.

Fuck, didn't even hear about the Dean DeLeo abuse allegations. Good God, is there any male celebrity who isn't a scumbag?

Anyway, yeah, I wouldn't have gone to see them on their own but they were part of the Rev3 tour and all three bands were really good live. I don't know that I'd go see them again (especially after reading about what Dean has allegedly done to his ex-wives and children) but they sounded good. Still, nothing will ever beat seeing Scott live and I'm glad I caught them once. I wish I also would have gotten to see the Wildabouts live too; I really dug that album.

I might check this out, Black Gives Way to Blue title track is probably one of my favorite AIC songs ever, Layne era or not

as for STP, honestly I wish the Deleos would just do Army of Anyone again or something. The idea of STP died with Scott to me, and even before that, last album they did with him was a jooooke

Two listens in. Slightly slow first half overall, but second really picks up. Never Fade feels like vintage AIC. Liking this a fair bit, DuVall needs to write moar.

This is vintage sounding A.I.C.

As good as the best with Staley IMHO.

No doubt. I can't believe they returned with the "rock guy" from the X-factor reality t.v. show.

New album is pretty solid, though it's sorely lacking in hooks. Black Gives Way To Blue was such a nice comeback album and they've yet to live up to that.

I do appreciate that there is more harmonizing between William and Jerry this time, rather than it just being Jerry on lead with occasional input from William. Sounds much more cohesive than the last album.
