Kisses will be there, but Noise wasn't extended an offer and will remain on his farm in Michigan

"Smashing Young Man"

Beggar's description
Of what I've been missing
Exploit your position
Don't think I didn't listen
Hey I hope you're feeling
A little better now

Success is so tragic
Pain is your gadget
Your tongue's just lashing
Just bitching by habit
Hey I hope you're feeling
A little purer now
Hey I hope you're feeling
Securer now

Help me I plea
I don't understand
Your ways and means
You smashing young man
Help me to see
The good you have planned
You're wearing thin
You smashing young man

You preach synthetic-like
Peace is an oversight
It's nothing to ignite
Your self-lit spotlight
Hey I hope you're feeling
A little special now
Hey I want to tell you
I think you're special now

I don't recall asking for guidance
I don't recall wanting to
I don't recall bowing before you
But I'm so impressed
With the kindness in your attitude

Boris is fucking insane. I almost threw him/them out jokingly as an avant-garde doom noise rock act wouldn't sell more tickets, but then I thought, "shit, that would actually be one of the coolest things ever"

I did not know that. I've never heard the "billy was a dick to Collective Soul story" but I'm sure he was.

iirc he called them out for being a Smashing Pumpkins rip off band. Specifically, Shine sounds a lot like Drown or Rhinoceros.

Hahahaha - oh it totally does. Back in the day I always thought Collective Soul was in the camp of influenced by SP where something like Hum was a more blatant ripoff

At that show, Halloween '98. That's the only performance with Kenny though. Although an Adore outtake, they must have earmarked it for the next record, because iirc it was the first thing they rehearsed when Jimmy rejoined, and then it was on the set for The Arising tour. Everyone already knew it because Corgan had been namedropping it as the "hit single he wouldn't allow on Adore because of his artistic integrity" and that performance on Halloween.

I love Steve but this is wrong. When Hum began, they were much heavier and didn't share much similarity with SP. Their first album Fillet Show is almost post-hardcore. They didn't start doing the spacerock thing till You'd Prefer an Astronaut, which came out two years after Siamese.

I think those would be bad ass opening bands, in an arena setting, but nearly impossible. Otherwise Royal Blood or Manchester Orchestra
You'd have to look it up, but there are multiple interviews were the front guy of Placebo (sorry, I do not know anything about them) discusses it. Placebo opened for SP in 1995/96. He said that, on the tour, Billy acted like a Zeppelin-style rock star: opening bands and crew weren't allowed to talk to him, no one could address him when he watched the opening bands perform, etc. After playing their set one night, Placebo dude saw Corgan walking around backstage surrounded by fans. Placebo dude, who was incredibly drunk, ran up to Corgan and asked if his songwriting improved after shaving his head. Palcebo dude said he loved Smashing Pumpkins, and this was supposed to be a little joke about Billy shaving his head. Billy apparently interpreted it as Placebo dude did not like Corgan's songs.

Placebo dude said their manager called the next morning and said, "I don't know what you did to piss off Smashing Pumpkins, but they kicked you off the tour." Since then Corgan has tweeted a few negative things about the band. You can hear him talk about Placebo here:

Brian Malko is the dude. Wow. SP is a furious band. Let the music do the talking. Why be a shithead to another great band? Placebo is really, really good and a musical cousin to SP. Malko is a really good guitarist with an interesting approach and distinct vocal. You'd really think Billy would find kinship there

- Oh, after watching the interview, it was Stephen the bass player/ rhythm guitarist that appeared to have the run in because they are joking about it

I'm sure you've heard both versions. One is like the Leno performance and the other has Jimmy ripping up the ride at the beginning instead of that beat. It's like a jazzier take but still pummeling
