I feel like nobody ever talks about "The night has come to hold us young" part of Ruby which to me is the best part of the song. Both songs are peak SP regardless

the ending of Ruby is unbelievable. that last line when he's like THE NIGHT HAS COME TO HOLD. US. YOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNGNNGNGNGNGGNGNGNNGNGNGNGNGNGNG NGNGNGNG

over the wailing guitars shit man now I have to listen to it right now.

also then it goes into the MCIS theme outro which is one of the best outros on any SP song

Also, Fuzzy would probably say, "yeah, those are good songs… if you like gay Elton John shit. How about 'Zero,' though?"

I actually love the quiet version for the album. It was always one of my favorite moments from the very first times I listened to MCIS

Unhappy

I am unable to take sides, having no recollection of when I last actually heard either song, but regarding Ruby:
  • In high school I had a crush on someone who didn't return my affections, and the whole "If you spin your love around" chorus just, like, I was so sure it deeply resonated, even though I barely understood my proto-feelings or honestly even the lyrics? You know???
  • I can't articulate why, but the way the "but no one's asking for the truth, so let me tell you" flows right into the chorus is one of my favorite moments of the whole album

this is perhaps admitting a bit of untroo-ness, but I only recently noticed that during the "night has come" bit when the guitars in the right channel do the classic SP octave slide-up, the guitars in the left channel do a fuckkin' dive bomb (perhaps a "behind-the-nut" bend, a la hummer)

it was a pleasant discovery

I will have to check this out. There are way too many dynamic guitar moments on that album to remember every one

it's a tacked-on, too-short, faded-out interlude that manages to be simultaneously mournful, hopeful, beautiful, dark. it's a perfect encapsulation of the themes of the album and the mythos of the band in that moment. now it evokes nostalgia for me, but at the time, it was key in terms of creating the "experience" that was our beloved Golden Era.

Fucking Siamese Zombies stuck in the pass. Why don't we talk about how great "Knights of Malta" is for a change? That part where he goes "Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah," if you listen closely, underneath the final "Woah," Corgan is softly singing "wow."

Wow.

My phone automatically capitalizes the 'w' is "Woah."

It knows that when Corgan sings it, it is a proper noun. Because he's singing the very platonic form of Woah. He am become Woah. Woah is Corgan.

Beautiful.

Instead of using "Bullet" for the Final Fantasy remake, they should have used "Knights" for the Crash Bandicoot remaster.

critically ruby is a better, stronger, lyrically, structually,

but porcelina has a feeling of surreal bliss that is unmatched.

the surreal bliss wins for me because it's unmatched anywhere anywhere else. All the strong points of Ruby are elements comparably found in other songs except for what I consider "rush like complexity" (rush the band). It's not an element I'm too fond of 0 I'm not a rush fan.

for me it's been and will always be Porcelina wins every time.

sure, ruby may have delicious swirling verses, but does it have a left channel guitar/drum, right channel synth/tikki beatz HARD SPLIT?

no. no it does not.
